Has anybody completely finished the application process yet (obviously referring to the enlisted side of the house)?

I have nothing to add about LEAD. Just want to thank you for your service to our country and wish you the best of luck in gaining an appointment to USAFA. :thumb:

Mustang- do you know what are the most important compents when the admissions office evaluates the Airman for an appointment to USAFA's Preparatory School?

Dad- I really appreciate that. It means a lot that I have your support!

    Prior E Application Tips

The selection is based on your total package. You need to look good on paper, but your commander probably wouldn't have signed your nomination form if you didn't. Your ALO interview and your writing sample are the things you have control over. You have control over your CFA too, but beyond engaging your core during the basketball throw I've got nothing for you.

Prepare for the ALO interview by thinking about how you've showed leadership in your job, and try to focus on your air force experiences not high school if you can. The ALO I interviewed with was relieved to talk with me because I had deployed and we both worked with the same air frame. He was a pilot and I was a support troop. The ALO will likely be a reserve officer near retirement who has worked with the aircraft on your base. Don't be too informal, but relax and talk about why you enjoy the air force and talk about your experiences.

The writing sample should be another component where your experience will pay off. Just because you've been reading your CDCs your style of writing has probably changed to something styled like traditional air force documents. Use your supervisors as proof readers with the intent to make it sound like you know how the air force writes professionally.

If I remember correctly there's a place on your form that asks what awards you've won. Use all the awards from basic and tech school too.

October. I'm slowly adding in more stuff as time progresses, like Honor Guard, completion of CDCs, 5-Level, etc...

I finished my application back in November. Been checking daily to see if it's switched from candidate on the online app. I think i'm going insane.

How are you adding things to your application? Mine is completely closed out and I'm still making progress on everything that you've mentioned, I'd like that leg up as well.

I've already submitted the 1786/CC Recc but I'm still working on the "KIT" which I'll be finished with VERY VERY soon. I'm just wondering how many enlisted people are applying this year and I'm wondering how difficult is it for us to get into the Prep School

If I remember correctly the Capt. in charge of the DVP said he expects around 250-300 applications this year. Most of which won't finish in time, another big chuck will not have the grades/scores. Next year he's trying to push for 600 LEAD applicants making it much more competitive.

    Enlisted at USAFA

The fall before 2010 inprocessed there was a letter from the CSAF asking enlisted airmen to apply to the academy, and the number of priors increased. Even with the increase we had less than 50 priors total with 17 direct entry. I was one of the direct entry and we were told that we were 17 out of 200. The other priors were from the prep school. I did notice the number of priors go up in the years that I was there. I still get double takes when people figure out that I was enlisted before the academy.
