Prior enlisted folks, I wanted to know has anyone of you all not been accepted to the prep school or academy?

I believe only one prior has ever been directly appointed to the academy, and he was a MOH recipient. Or at least that's what the priors here at the prep school were told.

I finished my application back in January, haven't heard anything yet. But I went on the Sept LEAD TDY to the Academy and I know of 2 people who have been accepted directly. One had a pres nom and the other was a Congressional, I think I can't be certain.
It really comes down to who can finish by the deadline and who all kept going through the process. My counselor nor any of the Lts I have kept in touch with haven't given me any information.

each applicant is unique and different. The decision about direct into the academy or going to the prep school first is based on a lot of factors. When was the last time you were in formal school, such as high school or college. What is your age, and can you go to the prep school and not go past the maximum date for entering the academy. Your grades. Recommendations. etc...

And no, the only person who went directly to the academy and bypassed the prep-school, was NOT just a medal of honor winner. There are priors who have gone straight to the academy.

    Priors

The MOH thing is bogus. There is a direct prior in my squad and he is not an MOH winner.

    Don't believe everything you're told.
There are two female prior enlisted in my C4C's squad that admitted directly.

No MOH recipient has attended USAFA.

Glad to hear that actually. It was hard to believe no priors went straight in. I think the priors here will get a kick out of this!

I forgot to mention also that my cadet escort during the LEAD DVP was a prior enlisted C4C who was direct, same job as me to boot, and there were quite a few upperclassmen that were priors who were direct.

Just out of curiosity, did you visit the Prep School during your LEAD DVP? Or just the academy? The prior that rooms next to me escorted LEAD participants around here in the fall.

Haha yes I did, I think we talked about it in the LEAD DVP thread I created. I toured squadron A, I wasn't in the group that sat in the class, but seeing the Prep dorms was interesting, it also seemed the squadron on the hill I was at, let their C4C have quite a bit more permissions than y'all.

AH yes I remember now. I'm in A squad, so may have bumped into you lol. I think there were two groups of three or four priors being given a tour in our squad. (Or at least that walked by my room on the third floor.) And that doesn't surprise me. Our squadron had very strict standards around that time. More so than the other squadrons. Thanks, I was just curious.

    Appointments

I haven't heard that any of the Prior enlisted at the Prep have received appointments. Last year, ten preppies out of the entire class got early appointments at the end of February.

Last year, those priors (or parents) that posted on the boards, all went to the prep school. I never heard how many priors went direct. Time will tell this year.

Best of luck to all those applying and good luck as we wait.
