Hello everyone I am planning on joining the air force rotc at my college next year. I have an ok gpa and am a tech major so hopefully that works in my favor. However, about three years ago I was convicted of a misdemeanor shoplifting charge. I was 19. It was stupid. I wasn't arrested but they made me do community service and take a class. I was stupid and I was so ashamed of myself, but I accepted responsibility nonetheless and have since gotten the charge expunged and have kept a clean record with the exception of a few traffic tix. (stop sign, forgot my license while driving one time, and expired tag once, along with one speeding violation) anyway my question is what should I do in my situation. Am I an automatic no go now? I would never lie to the commander or the air force and I am truly a focused and motivated individual. I want this more than anything. Please help me out.

You are not an automatic anything. I'm sure it won't help your chances but the only thing that will automatically disqualify you is failure to apply. Be honest, note the ciircumstances and hope for the best.

+1 to bruno

You appear to know your det. Talk to the CoC now. Be honest. Don't shade anything. If I did my math you are 22. I think they will respect your honesty.

Thanks for the feedback. I will talk to the CoC and will be honest. I hope my dedication can overshadow my past mistakes.
