I'm currently an active duty E-4 F16 crew chief. I've been taking classes at the local community college on base and have 26 credits. I will be separating in 2017. I currently have a 3.5 non tech in sociology. When I separate I will be transferring to a 4 year university with AFROTC. I'm hoping to get some insight on the chances of getting an ea and hopefully get a rated slot. I don't need a scholarship, my gi bill will suffice. I'll be separating with an honorable discharge and also have a few awards.

Just for clarification, if you are separating in 17, will you than have @50-60 credits? IOWS will you be entering as a junior with the expectation to graduate in the spring 2019? This can be an issue because AFROTC requires you to be a POC for 3 semesters.

I don't believe you will have a problem getting an EA. The AF likes prior Es, your cgpa is above the avg for non-tech (3.3/3.4) and you want rated.
~ Caveat is: You will need to take the AFOQT and that score will be part of the equation too.

Just a teeny piece of advice. Save some money up now so that when you do separate you can afford to take flight lessons during that year. The reason why is hours will give you a bump for your PCSM for the rated board that you will meet as a 300. If by the time you commission you have a PPL than you get to jump over IFT and go straight to UPT.
~ IFT use to be IFS, but Big Blue has now changed their goal from screening out to getting them more prepared for UPT.

    Okay, than that is different.

I would also say be proactive. I am guessing you know the 4 year university you want to attend when you start in 2017.
    1. Make contact with the CoC the semester prior to separating
    2. Talk to college regarding how many college credits will transfer for your major.
~ Many kids think that all of their credits will transfer for their major, but learn that the 4 year says that does not match with our requisites, you need to take our XYZ class. The problem is that XYZ class is only offered during 1 semester.
~~ So let's say you need to take Sociology 215 before Sociology 311. 215 is only offered spring semester. You are now stuck at a standstill for fall because of their system.

You can be a sophomore from a credit aspect, but not for your intended major.

Our DS2 did CC before transferring over to the 4 year. He is a BioChem major. Part of his mandated curriculum includes certain classes. He will graduate in 4 1/2 years because that pre-req needed was offered in the spring, not the fall. He will graduate with close to 180 credits instead of the 162 needed because of that 1 class the school demanded that he took at their school.

You should be fine if you have a clean record. Do your research on detachments, some are notorious for good or bad. Your stats look fine. I was nearly in the same situation as you are, I'll pm you some stuff. Also quick note have you considered prior-e comissioning programs?

I have but for the soar option they separate you completely from the military and won't offer you your gi bill benefits. I'm married and would need the bah to survive lol

Unfortunately prior service does not factor in to the objective Order of Merit for EA's. However, you may receive a higher commanders ranking because of that.

Honestly your chances are as good as someone coming straight out of high school. The stuff they look at is GPA, major, commander's ranking, and PFA. So you will really just have more experience with the PFA. At my Det. The year I went to field training both guys that were prior enlisted didn't get slots so it's up in the air.

You do not need to create a duplicate thread. Please build-off your original one.
