Every time I try to submit the record, I get a large red ERROR! message at the top of the screen. It loads as if it's going to submit the form, but then just goes back to the same page and displays the message. Every item is checked or filled out appropriately, so it's not me just missing something.

From reading previous threads on similar topics, I've come to find that the USNA online application is somewhat buggy, so I'm assuming that this is just another bug. Anybody have any idea on what might be causing the problem? I've contacted my BGO and she's going to try to find out what the problem is, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to post here as well.

Is this the part of the application where you can add remarks? My son had a hard time getting the remarks section down to 2000 characters.

Have someone else look at it when you get the error message. Sometimes on such things, it all looks ok to me and I simply need another pair of eyes to spot what is causing the problem.

Barring that, call Admissions! Print out the offending page if you can and be ready to fax it to them if necessary so they can help you de-bug. We never found bugs, but did have trouble with USNA's emails coming through to teachers.

On those remarks: type them up first in a Word doc where you can count words, then when you get it right, copy and paste into application.

in the remarks count, it's characters, not words.
Just kept having to condense until the website accepted it.

My bad. Word will count characters as well. So, you can use the same procedure.

well aren't you smart!
I never knew that. Where was this thread when we needed it last week!!!:bang:

My kids teach me all that kind of stuff! My formula for years has been to ask the oldest (now 23) for help when I have computer trouble and if he doesn't know, ask the next youngest one and so on! I have to start at the bottom of the heap now, as I only have the third and youngest left at home!

I made sure that the characters (including spaces) were under 2000, but it still doesn't work.

Nsiderbam: go through it line by line...something needs checking or "un checking". If that finds no errors, cut your essays, paste them into a word doc to save them, then clear every answer, every check mark out and start over filling it in again.

Not sure if this will be any help, but my son's principal had the same problem getting his Academic Record to go through for him. He tried like three times and finally had to print it all out and we faxed it to the Regional Director so he could try to identify the problem. It turned out in one place where it requested the date, he was entering 01 and it had to be JAN (or the opposite). Check all your date formats and make sure they're what is requested.

Otherwise, I'd try it on a different computer since sometimes mine gets bogged down and keeps returning to the same thing. Or completely restart to make sure it's starting fresh.

I gave it a day but it's still not working. I'm c/ping my remarks from Text Edit on my mac, and it doesn't format the text at all so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'm making sure that everything is checked. There several circumstances where I'm a tad confused, such as where is asks if I was in Boy Scouts, and if yes, lets me pick which rank I was. I was in the Boy Scouts, so I put yes, but wasn't any of the ranks listed (they're all very high ranks iirc), so I didn't choose any of them. I know this isn't the problem because I put "no" for boy scouts and tried it, and it still didn't work.

I really have nooooo clue why it isn't working, and it's bothering me.

Ok, I figured out what it was.

I had typed the document in the box, then c/ped it into google docs to check the character count, and then c/ped it back in once it was the right length.

That was what stopped it from working.

I printed it off and tried just typing it into the box without c/ping it from anything, and it worked.

Nearly done with my application now, just have the essays left (and my math teacher recommendation - too bad she got fired a while ago and my math teacher from grades 9-10 moved away two years ago... :( seems like I'm screwed).

Double check to see if you are using the correc internet browser. I recall my son having problems. He re-read the instructions, and switched browsers. That solved the problem. Good Luck!

wingnut, a point I didn't think of while reading this thread. I had some issues with teacher recommendations going through. The Admission Office (Regional Director) suggested that the teacher be sure they are using the correct browser (MSE). I didn't occur to me because I think my son used FF.
