Hi. My son saw on Dodmets that he has a remedial for a repeat UA without microscopy, CPT code 81003. In calling DoDMERB, the lady said the DoDMERB remedial code is R263.00 because he had a trace of protein in his urine.

My question is: in reading numerous posts on the SA forum website, it appears the individuals with this remedial code go for 2 repeat UAs--three days (or more) apart. On the Dodmet website, it appears to only indicate the one UA. So, is the remedial R263.00 a repeat for 1 UA or 2 UAs?

Thank you so much! We so appreciate the forum.

I don't remember exactly but this past summer they started a new test that looks at something else in the UA when there's a trace of protein and using some medical formula they can infer that the trace amount is acceptable and doesn't mean there's some kind of liver or kidney problem or likely hood there will be one in the future. My son had to go through 2 or 3 rounds of this BS before the new test finally cleared him. It's frustrating but my recommendation is to get those tests done immediately and sit on the folks at DoDMERB to process as soon as they get the lab results back. We were told to NOT urinate before this test. Make it first thing in the morning and make it his first bathroom visit of the day as a way to decrease the odds of finding protein or lessen the amount in it.

and no exercise!

My DS had the same remedial but passed the second time around. We scheduled it for a Monday morning first thing because he could lie low over the weekend. One of the reasons for elevated protein is exercise...hard to get around that when they have after school sports every day! Good luck!

Same here. My son passed on the first re-test. Just followed Larry Mullen's advice - no activity over the weekend, lots of water to flush the system, no problem.

I failed for this same reason on a non DoDMerb physical- added point, try to stay horizantal as long as possible before taking the test

Thanks for the input. One last question: wouldn't first sample/early-in-the-day sample of urine tend to be more concentrated and be less diluted--possibly leading to a trace of protein--than later in the day? Would it be best to give the sample later in the day? Thanks again.

The remedial provided specific instructions. That's what should do:thumb:

My son also had elevated levels the first time ... during soccer season ... follow the instructions and HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE ... oh ... and drink water

good luck

Success!

Thanks, everyone. DS took the repeat UA this morning, (a Monday), after drinking water all weekend, and it was negative for protein! Whew. Appreciate everyone's assistance.
