Congrats GSKeziah!
I hate to take away from your acceptance, so I hope I'm not.
Would you mind telling me if you are a recruited athlete or have any parental connections to West Point or the military?
Thanks, and congrats again! I'm waiting on a MOC nomination which will come out this week.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I have a couple of questions, were you recruited as an athlete? Did you keep in touch with anyone from West Point throughout the whole application process? Have you already visited the campus?

Good luck to you!

No I am not a recruited athlete, but I am quite aware that I am in the lower percent of the classes standardized test scores/gpa.

I was nominated under SDVET (Service Deceased or Disabled Veterans) for my farther's service to the military, this nomination source is what got me my appointment to the academy.

At first I felt embarrassed that this would probably be the main reason I got into the academy against better academically qualified candidates. The only way I can make up for this in my mind is to be in the top 50% of class. Although many of you may be mad at people like me or athletes who you feel may not deserve the appointment over you, I can only hope the other lower qualified cadets are like me in which they realize what they have been given and make the best of it!

Sorry, but not upset at your appointment! Just wanted know if it was due to being an athlete! I was an athlete in college, and I know we got preferred treatment, which was fine with me and my parents. Good luck to you!

Oh I'm not upset haha how could I be? I just feel obligated to saying that after I say my scores partly for me and part in hopes to inspire people who plan on just bumming off at West Point.

GSKeziah--

The admissions board found you worthy of an appointment. They don't rank each incoming class or make certain appointments more important than others. Regardless of your nomination source, you were still found fully qualified for a chance to become a cadet at West Point. You don't have to defend why you got an appointment to anyone here. Your nomination source is a way for our country to honor your father's sacrifice. See you on R-Day brother :thumb:

Sorry, I did not mean it like that. I was just wondering because I'm still waiting. By all means, I think you should have an appointment! :)
My SAT scores are better than the mean top 10% of class and I have 12 varsity letters, was captain, gold award, community service, blahblahblah..and I'm 3Q'd but I'm starting to doubt that I'll even get a nomination now.. :( I guess if I don't get an appointment or a nomination, then I'll just take the ROTC path.
Good luck and godspeed to all who got in though! And hopefully there is still a glimmer of hope out there for me regarding USMA! Hooah! :)

The last thing I want is people feeling sorry for me, and I took no offense to what anyone said on the forums. I think your profile is great and it sounds like even if you don't get your regular nomination you are a perfect candidate for the Superintendent nomination perhaps you should contact him? I didn't even get my 3Qed letter so I know how it feels to be on the waiting block, just remember that you've done an amazing job and don't give up.

Thanks! And I don't feel sorry for you, I think you definitely earned it because the admissions board wouldn't have admitted you if you had not!
I'll try not to give up :)
