Qualified, awaiting appointment status

I have a friend in my old AIT unit who is NG and received his appointment in February. I have no idea if that's the norm, however.
I assume he received another source of nomination besides his Commanders Endorsement then? I know that some NG have received appointments through Congressional nominations, etc. Also does anyone know, are the 85 slots set aside for all NG/Reserves applying, regardless of nomination source? In other words, are these slots for those soldiers who did not receive any other nomination.

No, just because a Soldier gets another nomination doesn't mean they'll get in on that nomination. Therefore they aren't precluded from competing for the Soldier vacancies. The difference between a congressional nom and a service connected one is that there is no limit on the number of service connected nominations that can be given (ie NG/Reserve Soldiers could have 200 or 50 or 1000 Fully Qualified candidates competing for those 85 spots, whereas a MOC is limited to the 10 competing for their vacancy).

That makes sense, thanks you!

No it was a Commander's. However, he informed me he was accepted to USMAPS, not a direct appointment.

After applying three times to he academies I just wanted to tell everyone that I was on the waitlist for USMA until yesterday and that I will be turning down the offer as I have already accepted to USNA. So I am happy to let you guys know that a new slot has opened up for the class of 2017 and I hope one of you guys is lucky enough to get that spot.

Congratulations to those who have been appointed, and remember that if this is something you really wanted and you didn't get in this year the dream is never really over until you stop applying.

Best Of Luck to Everyone

Congratulations, Ferryman, on the USNA appointment and for your dedication and persistence! Good luck at USNA.

I still have not heard from USMA. 3 Q'd and NWL. Is this a good sign or bad? FFR rep does not know anything either. Admissions officer sent e-mail with little info on my status but said I would know very soon. Can't stand waiting and I have sent in my papers for plan B.

Same situation for me. I sent in my papers for VMI and the wait is driving me nuts! But I assume no news is good news at this point because it means we are still in the running. A lot of of kids have received QNS letters and we are still here. Hopefully we won't be one of those kids who don't hear back until the week before beast.

I submitted my papers to VMI as well. I received a 4yr AROTC scholarship to VMI, so I am very blessed to have that as an option. I am waiting oooh so patiently for USMA to send me some form of status update.

Does anyone else who is still waiting feel like it's one long game of Russian roulette with the mail box?

Those still waiting. Hang in there. My DS is likely going to turn his WP Appointment back in as he is leaning towards USCGA. However, although we have heard he has the USCGA appointment, we have nothing on paper yet and as DS put it, "I'm not putting a match to any bridges until I'm sure I have another one to cross".

I will post here if he makes a definitive decision. He received his appointment a week ago today.

Actually, he did burn one bridge today and that was Georgia Tech.

The Wait...

USMATx2017...yes, yes, and yes.

Let's all hang in there, though! Curious to compare, what's your backup plan?

Option "B"

Its nice that candidates will turn in there appointments to USMA, but if they gave out 1350 appointment's and 1225 accepted i am sure they wont replace a "Turn down" with another candidate. It would just bring there number closer to there target. Right?

That's true but I think they are managing the class size closely this year and I'm not sure that they "overbooked".

Exactly!

In the past, WP would offer over the class size knowing (based on years of historical data) that a certain % would decline.
In essence, inching down to the desired class size.

That method became problematic when the historical decline % began to change to a lower decline %.
IOW - a smaller % were declining.

This year, less than 1200 (class goal) were offered in the first waves.
As declines come in, offers can be made to replace the declines.
In essence, inching up to the 1200 goal.

I'm actually a junior in college, so in the likely event I receive a QNS then I continue to attend classes as normal. I've thought about graduating with a Bachelor's then attending the LTC program for ROTC in order to do a 2 year ROTC program for my Master's and branching Infantry. My current Plan B though is to graduate my undergraduate and apply to medical school, and seek an Army medical scholarship to receive my O commission.

Yourself?

Where do the NG/Reserve soldiers play a part in inching up to 1200? When I last spoke to my liaison he said there were only 22 of us.

Contact your Regional Commander regarding this and he/she will be able to clarify for you. This is the best and most direct way to receive an answer that is true and reflective of the current admissions statistics.

Solid plan, can tell you've considered this carefully! I'm a high school senior, so if for whatever reason I'm not accepted this year, I'll do ROTC and reapply next year. Either way, I want to be an Army officer. Best of luck to you! I'm confident events will turn out the way they're meant to.

DS just declined his appointment to WP as he finally received the USCGA appointment this afternoon and accepted that. That will free one up and if they are reassigning these, someone will be happy soon. He was torn in making this decision but feels that USCGA will be a better career opportunity for him and his pilot aspirations. Congrats to all the members of the USMA class of 2017. My other son (2015) will be part of your cadre in the coming year...
