In the Quantico, VA area today attending a commissioning ceremony for one of DS' friends from college. Charlie Company of OCC just graduated, so there were a lot of newly minted 2 Lts. wandering around today. Every one of them was as proud as a peacock, as well they should be. One of them was the NROTC MO friend of my son who was unable to do OCS last summer due to an injury, so he completed this OCC after his December graduation. The wife and I came up for it. DS and some of the other folks from college came up as well. It was good to see them all. After the ceremony all the Marine Options went to get fitted for their expensive dress blue uniforms. One of them said it was the most money he ever spent, at one time, in his life. I recall a few times when I said that earlier in life! I'm sure he'll have several more occasions to make that same utterance.

While they were doing that, my wife and I went to the National Museum of the Marine Corps again. I think it was our third visit. I always get teary eyed in there. Every. Single. Time. If you ever get a chance to visit, you should do so. It's one of the best museums I've ever been to. Very moving.

Congrats to your son's friend. Best wishes to him in his career. The hard work is only now starting!

Kinnem, you should have called us...I can offer free room and boarding...as long as you don't mine big dogs!

"...newly minted 2 Lts. wandering around…" That is applicable to so many situations. Nice post Kinnem. Sounds like a good trip.

We used to live a couple of miles from Quantico before we moved to NC in 2005. They were building the museum when we were there, I think it opened shortly before we moved.

We used to have to almost enter the base to get to DS ( the one about to go off to college) to preschool just outside of the gate. One of his preschool classmates is a WP 2019 appointee ( DS still waiting to hear).

We, too, made the trip up to Marlow White last weekend for son's ASU fitting, and dropped a large sum of money. It makes it all seems very real and close at hand. Congrats to your son's friends, and to the rest of our kids about to launch their careers.

kinnem: very nice of you to go and support your son's classmate at his graduation from OCS and commissioning. Looking forward to visiting the museum the next time I am out there.

Thanks Pima! I'll keep that in mind for the future. We used some Marriott points for a "free" room and left the dog at home.
Congras to all. How many altogether graduated? And to TBS....
I didn't get those numbers Spad, but I would guess 200-230. For most of them TBS starts Monday or Tuesday, I forget which. DS's friend comes back for TBS in about 6 weeks.
