I was reading through the instructions to appointees, and saw that appointees are able to purchase our 2 pairs of boots prior to field training. I will be buying my boots ahead of time, and am wondering if it is frowned upon by cadre to have the nike lightweights? I am currently an AS200 in AFROTC and during our first two years here, cadets go through a certain period of "initiation" I guess you could call it -- where they are not allowed to use anything beyond the standard issued equipment. Just wanted to know if anyone had any insight on this from prior BCT?

It depends on the squad and your cadre. Some let you use your boots, some don't. But either way, you are issued two pairs of "basic boots".

Don't wear them during basic. During the school year it'll depend on your squadron, but I would definitely recommend not wearing them during basic.

I have a feeling that having comfy boots would stir the cadre on multiple levels, but lack of standardization would be their downfall eh?

How do I view the instructions for appointees kit? Every time I click the link on my portal it says error and goes to some invalid web page.

Have you guys got your orders for getting sized for uniforms yet? Mine said the same thing until I got an email asking for me to go get sized. Now I can get it though.

Yah got my orders.. Still same thing though. Plus for t shirt size.. Do they run small big? Don't want to be stuck with a shirt that doesn't fit for all of BCT

If they're using the same company as last year, they'll run a size big. I'd recommend calling the number they give you to check.

My son's link quit working too. He went to the admissions page and started over. He had to set up a new user name and password. It looked the same at first, but after scrolling to the bottom he could see where to click for the appointee information. Hope this helps.

During the school year, the majority (probably 35/40) of squadrons will let you wear any kind of boots you want. During basic, it is heavily dependent on what flight you get put in. I wore my preppie boots to basic because they were already broken in, and my cadre didn't make me switch. However, the nike lightweights will call a lot more attention to you, and they won't be good for the... muddier... parts of basic. :thumb:
