    Hello all,

I am currently at BOLC on TDY orders. Fun times. My orders specifically state that I will be provided government dining facilities on the weekdays at no charge to me and paid per diem on the weekends.

However, upon arriving at BOLC, we did not receive meal cards and we were given explicit instructions that because we are being paid BAS (I am being paid BAS), no matter what my orders say, I cannot legally eat at the DFAC for free. However, some of my classmates are going to the DFAC with a copy of their orders and eating at no cost - I have been paying cash for every meal so far. So my question is...

If I am being paid BAS while on TDY orders, can I eat at the DFAC for free or should I continue paying with cash?

I know you probably think I should be asking my chain of command but I did so and did not get a satisfactory answer (I have tried asking multiple times). My classmates are not helpful at all with this. I'm trying to do the right thing but no one seems to have the time to answer this question.

Thanks for the help in advance, this has been bothering me a lot

Technically, that is correct. You are not supposed to eat free at a DFAC unless your TDY orders state that meals are provided AND your per diem entitlements are adjusted to reflect the lower M&IE due to available meals. Go get your free meals, as it sound like they will not settle your voucher at full M&IE.
