I know that USNA has their Blue and Gold Officers and USAFA has their ALOs that interview the candidates. What does USMA do?

Every academy has people playing a similar role, under a variety of names.

At West Point, they are known as Military Academy Liaison Officers, or MALOs.

AT USCGA, they are known as Academy Admissions Partners, or AAPs.

At USMMA, they are known as Admissions Field Representatives.

never heard from my MALO

I live in Atlanta GA. Have heard from the other's (blue and gold) etc. How do you find out who your's is?

Below I've copied and pasted another thread I had started as I'm looking for a similar answer.

The USNA BGO and USAFA ALO have already contacted my son for interviews, but he has yet to hear anything from his USMA MALO. On his candidate file it has a listing for a Congressional District Coordinator (is this the MALO?). Is my son supposed to initiate the contact? He did receive LoA from USMA last week.

mumsyto3,
I am a candidate for USMA 2014. That is your son's MALO. Your son should definitely initiate contact with him.

Well what if you want to apply to more than one academy? I'am only in contact with my ALO.

Then you will have to contact three different people to have three separate interviews. All three admissions portals show who their respective contact is.

Hey all!

Allow me to add one thing that's been touched upon here...

YOU should contact your MALO as SOON as you get their name, contact information, etc. Do NOT wait for them to contact you.

Why?

Two reasons: first, we are BUSY. Second, and MOST important...who wants this appointment? :thumb:

Contact US...and now WE know you're serious.

Just food for thought.

Best of luck to you all!!!

mumsyto3 - the interview process runs a little differently at USMA than at USNA or USAFA. It is just not as "coordinated" for a variety of reasons. While every attempt is made to have a candidate interviewed it doesn't add "points" to the application and in some cases an interview doesn't happen.

You say your son has an LOA, did he go to SLS? If he went to SLS he may have been interviewed there and won't need another interview.
If you have any questions about his MALO and don't know how to make contact have your son contact his Regional Commander.

I received a call from my MALO while on vacation and called him back, but I just got the machine. I left a message. How long should I wait before I try contacting him again?

Probably a couple of days. I called mine and he said he would call me back. He called me 2 days later. They are just busy. They have other jobs besides being an ALO, MALO, or BGO.

MALOs at West Point are organized according to congressional district. Most states have a state coordinator, then congressional district coordinators, then MALO "footsoldiers" within the district, but every state is different. When you start your application online, there should be a "liaison" tab on the candidate portal that lists your congressional district coordinator. By all means, reach out and contact him or her! If you cannot get ahold of one, or have problems accessing that tab, or it lists nobody (there is constant turnover in the MALO ranks as it is mostly an all-volunteer effort), then contact your Regional Commander here in the admissions office. You will find our contact info on the USMA admissions website!
