Question About Monies Needed By I-Day

cell phone, charger, $100, wallet, paperwork... that is all a plebe needs. Our son told us that they gave him so much stuff on I Day that he did not need to buy anything at the mid store.

This depends on the company. Some plebes have their entire dobkit tossed in the trash. My son had to throw his entire dobkit away in the trash which included his contacts.

By dobkit, do you mean the bag with suggested items to bring to I day such as undergarments and socks?

No one I know had anything thrown out, the detailers keep pretty rigid accountability of everything.

It's the USAA Academy Personal Property policy, available at all 5 Federal Academies, inexpensive, with low deductible and designed for what a cadet or mid has and where they have/take/stow their stuff, including class ring. The mid or cadet is the policy holder and applicant. An excellent alternative to claiming small, or big, losses on your family policy.
Google "USAA Academy Personal Property Policy." That takes you to the landing page for Academy, with various tabs.
I post on here in my personal capacity, but full disclosure, I work for USAA.

We did the same thing with our Plebe this year. It is good for them to start taking responsibility for that kind of thing.
USAA is conveniently just outside the gate and they were wonderful to work with, spoken from someone who doesn't work for them.

Having the inexpensive renters insurance is an great idea. It has the added bonus of giving them "longevity" with USAA, so when they go to purchase auto insurance in a few years, they will be eligible for cheaper rates for both being a current policy holder and for having more than one type of insurance with them.

Wait for the paperwork in the permit to report package. They have a special checking account for mids and will have direct deposit paperwork ad well
