Question About Nominations

Hello,

I have a question regarding nominations. I would like to be able to get in to both Navy and Army (though Army is first choice), but nominations only allow you to select one school.

Should I apply to Army with the congressional and one senatorial nomination, then select Navy for the other senatorial and VP nomination?

Can someone give me some advice on this?

Thanks!

It depends on your Congressman. Tell your congressman you would like to have a nomination to more than one service academy. Some will allow that but others will not. Call your Congress member and ask.

Is it appropriate to ask for a principal nomination while in the nomination interview?

I think it's appropriate to ask if they DO principal nominations. If they do, then by definition given that you're there, that's what you're asking for. Just my opinion though.

They typically do competitive noms. What should the approach be in this case? My FFR told me I should be getting a nom based on my app, but I would rather a principal obviously haha

Everyone would rather a principal. What make you so special? My own thinking would be to not present someone with a Wack-a-mole target. By all means argue why you should get a nom. Maybe even mention you wish it were a principal nom. But personally I think asking for a principal nom is somewhat beyond the pale. YMMV and others may disagree.

Know your audience....

There are many gifts and opportunities that are never given. Simply, they are never asked. Be humble, show energy, they are choosing those who deserve and show character to finish.

If they ask why you deserves this more than the last guy? (this is where you put your sale man hat on) Look'em in the eye and with confidence answer: " Because I've Earned It On My Own."

My DS received nominations for both West point and Annapolis. His first choice was West Point. so his Congressman gave him both.
