    Hello all,

I have a question about the nomination process. From my understanding, for every empty space a MOC has at an academy, that academy is required to appoint a nominated individual from that district/state? (Assuming that at last one nominated individual from that district is 3Q'ed.)

If this is the case, is there anyway to confirm if you are 3Q'ed?

    Thank you for your time.

    - Jake

For USNA, you will know if you have passed the CFA and medical. Unfortunately, USNA does not tell candidates if they are Board qualified (unless you receive an LOA). Other SAs may take a different approach.

Bummer. Those are the two things that I'm least worried about. Oh well! Thanks for the info!

Actually, Jake, your first statement is not accurate, but welcome to the club as most people think that is the case. The Academys are not required to appoint a candidate from a congressman's list under the following circumstances: an appointment is offered to a nominated candidate but the candidate refuses the appointment (goes to another service academy, changes mind, etc.). The Academy does NOT have to go back to the remaining nominated candidates to pick an appointee on a non-ranked slate. If the slate is ranked, then, yes, they do. It is the Academy's complete decision to go back or not. Common sense says they should go back to that list but that is not necessarily the case.

This has been a real sore spot with both our congressional committees and the BGOs in our state as all of us work pretty hard and diligently in interviews and written reports for our state candidates to have the Academy blow them off. But it can and does happen.

Hmmm... Well that is unfortunate. Here's to hoping that I'm at the top of the list then! Thanks for the help Spud. This was the only part of the whole process that I was shaky on.
