Okay, so my mom has been bugging me about how I hand wrote the addresses on my nom letters, and I'm just wondering: does it really matter?
Does the appearance of the letters really make a difference, or is it as long as the content is solid?

As one of those naggy moms~it shows your attention to detail. First impressions are hard to change. Thank your mom for her willingness to ensure you have all the opportunities available to be able to pursue your goals.

Appearance is a pretty big factor. You want to be seen as a proffesional. Everything counts in the end and if they're trying to decide between you and an equally competitive candidate, the way you presented yourself will likely be a factor.

An example of this is bringing a well organized folder of all forms filled throughout your application proccess to the entireview. They already have the forms they need so it's not something they expect you to do but it makes you look like you're on top of things.

Hee hee, I was just thinking the same thing! All in good fun of course:shake:
Going to an entireview sounds very stressful. But I suppose for a proffesional it wouldn't be that hard.

It's called a type-o. And appearently I did well enough for USMA and USAFA which is more than the people laughing can say. Does it really call for going off-topic?

To OP: Use a spell check on everything that is turned in. Although it's not important on here (as some people seem to think it is), it looks bad on your part if you didn't seem to correct your work to them.

I'd say it never went off topic. Yes appearance does matter.

So they can't just say I took the time to actually write things out neatly?

Oh and by the way, everyone knows that I'm talking about the actual envelope I'm going to mail it in right? I typed all the apps.

You can do it either way but when you receive envelopes, all the addresses are typed unless it's from a friend or family member. Official things look better typed.

Now let's not freak the child out. DS did not type any of his envelopes and he got all of the noms he applied for (both sen, and cong). I can't be sure, but I am betting the envelope gets tossed immediately, there is no need to keep it since your address is on the app.

Don't handwrite the app, but the envelope is fine.

Neoseeker - don't worry about it. Some aide in the congressman's office will open the mail and toss the envelope. No need to type the envelope.

IMO - make sure all parts of the application and neat, clear and readable, that you follow direcitons (including where to mail the application to) and that the application is completed by you.

Wow, I'm sorry I was just kidding around. I guess there is no room for fun here, I will make sure to never joke around again! It is obvious that you are very superior to me, you are correct I have never been accepted at either the USMA or the USAFA. I will never try to lighten the mood or make someone smile again.

kpwehope: Don't let those comments get to you. Some of us notice "typos" and misspelled words, while others don't notice them. Some of the posters on this site are about to embark on a whole new adventure, and are probably getting nervous. This comes across as being a bit testy to other posters...try not to let it bother you. Some people are just now noticing the spell check option on the upper right of this page...

I am with Mom on take it in stride. I never hit spell check on my posts, I do go back and re-read them, and correct any glaring errors, otherwise, if someone wants to grade me on typos, they have more time on their hands than I do!

Plus, I am too lazy to download the spell check!

This should be a friendly forum to support applicants, candidates, cadets and their family. Sometimes we do have heated debates, but the information is the important aspect, not the i before e rule after c.

Exactly why I said in my original post "all in good fun" just joking around and trying to lighten the mood. I don't go around correcting everybody's grammar, I really don't care. Like I said just trying to have some fun. I will not do it again.

Aw kpwehope, don't worry about it - R-day is right around the corner and America's Finest is just getting a little antsy.
By this time next week he will no longer have all the answers. jk!
