Question about US History class

I read that one of the requirements of getting into West Point is to take one year of US History. Well I took it last year in eight grade and I think I got a B or a C in it. Does that count or do I have to take it again in High School? I hope not, because I'm not sure my school offers it.

And another question: Is 9th grade too early to start preparing? I've got good grades and I'm planning to apply to all the SA's but West Point is the one I want to get into the most. Am I starting too early or not early enough?

Its great that you're starting to think about this freshman year, and yes, you should be choosing what kind of classes and extracirriculars will make you a competitive candidate, but at the same time, remember to have some fun. High school is a great time, and I've spent the last 4 years knowing that I was going to be applying to both USAFA and USMA and kept my grades as best as I could and participated in sports and looked for ways to explore leadership opportunities both in school and in the community, but at the same time, I've also been having a blast doing stuff that I'm interested in (i.e. soccer 24/7 it seems sometimes). Remember, admissions is looking for who you are as a person. Work hard, get good grades, stay out of trouble, and do things that interest you and excel in them and you'll find yourself in a good place come application time

Only high school or college level classes will count towards admission to a service academy. Unless your US History class was either of those, it won't count. I find it hard to believe a high school won't offer US History so you might want to double check.

You are starting at a good time. A lot of people don't until half way through high school at which point they have control over only half of their file. My suggestion for now would be to find a sport you love and join it now. Same goes for any clubs or organizations you may be interested in.

9th grade is not too early to start!
Go to http://admissions.usma.edu/startyoung.cfm
This will help you prepare to become a competitive candidate for West Point.
There is also a box in the upper right hand corner where you can sign up to be on the mailing list.

Keep logging on here to the SAF. This is also a great resource as you start planning to apply to any of the service academies.

Good Luck! :thumb:

Thanks for the answers! I looked it up in the school handbook, and we do have US History, so one less thing for me to worry about. Now I just need to start doing sports...

Oh, and I'll post all my questions in the question thread from now on, so as not to clutter up the forum.
