This is my first post; so I hope I'm doing this right. I happened upon this site today, and loved reading all the helpful advice. I'm an elementary teacher, and husband is a 1982 grad of USNA.

My daughter attended NASS, 2nd session, June 2010. She loved her experience! This experience solidified the fact that she passionately wants to attend the Naval Academy.

She received a call from the Naval Academy Admissions Office, and they gave her a user name and password to log on to her candidate file.

The USNA website stated that if your preliminary application was strong enough you should receive a letter in the mail. Many of her friends from NASS have said that they have all received something in the mail. She has not received anything in the mail, and is very concerned that she is missing a part of the application. What could she be missing? Did she receive a call instead of a letter? She is confused and trying to understand. She is very concerned that somehow she is being viewed as not a good candidate. My daughter received the Color Man award for her company during NASS, but she does not think that receiving that award means that she would be looked at as a good candidate. I disagree with her. If anyone can help us sort this out; it would mean a lot to this mom! This is such an emotional process because it means so much to Katie. Thank you!:help

It seems if they issued her a candidate # with a user name and password, then they consider her a "candidate". Does she have access to begin filling out the forms for the application when she logs in?

Thanks for responding so quickly! Yes, she is working on it right now.
Do some candidates get letters and others a phone call?

I'm a BGO...

If she went to NASS, she has a candidate number, and that is one hurdle crossed. She is DEFINITELY a candidate and can proceed with completing her application.

Good luck to her in the process.

I didn't receive a letter either in the mail! I attended NASS 2nd session June 2010 as well, and loved it! Maybe I saw her there? I was Delta-2-2. Anyway, I asked around and everyone seemed to have received an official candidate letter and I hadn't. So I called admissions office, and they gave me my number and such. As long as you can log on and fill out the online app, you're definitely an official candidate (also because she went to NASS). So it's all good! I had the same trouble. Good luck to her!

Thank you! Proud Mom

Thanks everyone! It was a much better day today!!!!

Since she went to NASS she's already a candidate, the call you got had all the info she needed to continue w/ the application process. Since she applied to NASS and attended much of the intial application part has been completed. She should be hearing from her Blue & Gold Officer BGO soon, as BGOs are starting to get assigned candidates. Until she gets an e-mail/phone call from her BGO this site is a wonderful place to get your answers. Feel free to private msg me if you have any questions.

Here's a good link to help you understand the application process and steps required:

Best of luck to you and your daughter!
