Question for those who have been-there, done-that: DS sent a CAR update to his admissions officer via his guidance counselor (so she could validate them), and admissions acknowledged receipt of same. (It was an email checking in, listing new honors, attaching updated test scores and first quarter grades, and noting that BGO interview was completed in October [still hasn't been uploaded :frown:] - DS did not fill out the original CAR form again.) For anyone who has done this in the past - is the CAR date likely to be updated on the candidate portal? For now it shows the date the CAR was originally submitted...just wondering if this will change or if they add the update "to the file" without changing the date to the online system.

Thanks, as always, for sharing your experiences.

MammaMia, I apologize that I do not have an answer for your question on the CAR. In regards to the BGO interview, I suggest having your DS call his BGO and ask for an update on when it should be completed. In my experience, it goes a long way to personally follow up. Best of Luck!

MammaMia,

I'm concerned that the BGO interview hasn't been uploaded for a month. It is possible either that the BGO forgot about it or there was some glitch in entering the interview into the system. The former should NEVER happen but it is possible. It could also be that there was an electronic issue -- i.e., he/she hit "submit" but it didn't actually upload. That happens more often than one would like; you're supposed to see a "success" message but if you didn't pay attention it could be that the final element went awry. Your BGO can actually verify that the interview is uploaded but may just have "assumed."

In any event, if your DS has not done so, I recommend he contact the BGO and politely note that his system does not show the interview as having been submitted so he just wanted to follow up. I'd leave it very open ended and light in tone -- sort of a casual inquiry.

If your DS has already followed up with the BGO, I suggest that he email his RD, state that the interview was completed on X date and that he has followed up with the BGO regarding submitting the interview. Again, very neutral. In truth, if 100% of the packet isn't complete (other than BGO interview), the RD probably won't do anything for now. If the packet is complete, you might get some nagging from Admissions to the BGO.

My dd sent updates to her CAR as well. She did get an email confirming it was added to her file, but it did not change on the portal.

(Third time trying to post this - apologies if several copies show up all at once!)

Thanks, falconchic88 - we will stop checking to see if that part of the portal has been updated. Appreciate your confirming your experience.

DS followed up with BGO by phone after two weeks and was assured it would be submitted in 1-2 days. BGO acknowledged difficulty using email, and the email address listed for him on DS's portal is incorrect, so attempts by Admissions to contact the BGO via email using the address in the system would not be successful. He prefers to communicate by phone and does not have voicemail. (He's tough to reach.)

DS also let his admissions officer know (as part of the letter updating his CAR) that he interviewed on Oct XX. Receipt of the letter was acknowledged about two weeks ago. The rest of his application (including DODMERB and CFA) has been done for six weeks.

We don't want to be annoying or nag, but also don't want his otherwise-complete application to get sidetracked because we were too "patient" to flag this as a possible problem.

usna1985, would you suggest another call to the BGO, or to Admissions (or neither)?

Thanks once again for reading through all this and for your insight.

It's an early Thanksgiving miracle - portal is updated this morning to show that interview was submitted on October 20! I feel like the support of this community put the ball in the end zone :) So now...it's just the "normal" waiting and hoping. Thanks to everyone.

As noted, if your DS has completed 100% of his packet and the BGO interview is still outstanding, suggest he f/u with the BGO by phone one last time.

Completion of the packet will ultimately trigger action by Admissions. They will send out to the ACs (basically the informal supervisors of BGOs) a list of candidates with completed packets but no BGO interviews filed. The ACs then contact the BGOs and urge them to get the interviews done/submitted. If, after a few weeks, no interview is submitted, Admissions will review the record without the interview.

So the process will move forward either way.
