Hi, I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I've been wanting to join the Air Force and I want to go into the special operations career field. I heard that at the academy they teach you about your desired MOS, if that is true do they help you with the pipeline or anything? Thanks for taking your time to read this and if this has already been asked I'm sorry to bother you and I hope to see you all in the service! :thumb:

You will be trained physically at the academy, and that will help, but majority of Spec ops training is mental. You need to go in there with attitude that you're going to be the one on top.their might be a group of cadets who are interested in special ops as well, and maybe they'll form a PJ group or CCT group but i dont know if they have one currently..

what field are you going into?

-whatever you do, go after your dream and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Never quit, never give up, and never accept anything below your term of success.

good luck :)

I plan on becoming a PJ, it sucks they don't have anything but thanks for the info! Just one more question though if you happen to know, how hard is the PT? I hope it's challenging because I love to challenge myself. Thanks again!

MODS can you move this thread to the AFA forum?

OP,

Not trying to offend you.

Future,

Congrats on your desire to serve.

If you are interested in the CRO/STO path, you might want to check out the Combat Shooting Team at USAFA. An amazing group of young people many of whom have similar desires. In addition to weapons training, they arrange a bunch of special briefings, opportunities and guest speakers; including current and former PJs. Be aware, they are a serious group of individuals and the tryouts alone may be the hardest challenge you've faced to date...

There's a program here for those interested in special operations career fields (STO/CRO/cross commission SEAL/etc) called the "Battlefield Airmen Course". The exact details aren't talked about a whole lot, other than you'll spend your time doing a mixture of things, including but not limited to water confidence, physical training, rucking, small unit tactics, etc. Ideally, you will go through BAC your 3-degree year, and then a program called "Phase 0" your 2-degree year, which is a more advanced version of BAC designed to prepare you for "selection". Sometime towards the end of your junior year you'll have the opportunity to go to "selection", which is basically the try-out for whatever special operations career field you are interested in.

Yep, "Phase 0" or "BAC" sounds like what you are looking for.

The Combat Shooting Team is a great group as well, but their purpose is not explicitly to prepare cadets for CRO/STO selection. It was the best activity I did at the academy, even when it was in its infancy. I'm sure it has improved since then.

As a note, PJs are the enlisted side. CRO-Combat Rescue Officer is the officer AFSC. STO-Special Tactics Officer would be more along the lines of a Combat Controller.
