Questions about I-Day and Parents' Weekend

No hijack. Good Question. If Mid submits travel voucher that comes in the permit to report package Mid will be reimbursed at applicable government travel rates. Parents will never see it :shake:as it is placed in the Mid's account.

Plebes are reimbursed for their travel, but don't expect to see it! It is deposited into their account and it is up to them to get it back to you if you paid. Form what I've heard on the list serve (and myself included) we never saw the money, but that's ok, since they don't make much anyway! :)

I have another question -

I just called the Academy and they told me that registration for PPW is Thursday, August 12th. Silly question but what does that mean?

Do the plebes get to spend any time on Sunday with the family and if they do, do you remember if it was just the morning or all day? I don't know if we should return home Sunday or Monday.

Thanks again.

Seems to me plebes got to be with family until 6 pm on Sunday.

If you can stay til Monday (our flights west are usually after noon, too early to leave on Sunday and gives us Monday am), go to the yard early, like 6 am, for a morning walk. You'll be treated to plebes running. It is not unusual for Annapolis folks to walk on the yard, so it is not like you are trespassing or spying! I got to do this both I-Day with hubby and then again when I was back for PPW by myself. It made me feel good to see many chaplains running with them (they wear diffrent colored t-shirts labeled CHAPLAIN) and even the 'dant was working out and running with them. It was like getting to peek through a window and see a tiny bit of plebe summer.

This has been the PPW schedule for the last couple of years. It is pretty much gospel for times back on the Yard unless the Dant gives an "overnight" on Saturday. Don't expect that one. Plebes get all day Sunday from, I think 08:00 till 18:00.

Listen for the Christmas Carols out of Bankroft as you leave through gate 1.:bounce1: Good luck and have a great time. Daughter has second session Cadre and can't wait to meet all your Plebes.

Just a thought that was passed on to us last year ... when you say your good bye's on Sunday ... DON"T go back for a "look" on Monday ... your son/daughter is bucking up, hanging tough, making it work ... and it is a lot of work to stay composed. Seeing a parent again could undermine their resolve. We heard this frequently from and about parents who lived close enough to visit the yard during the year. Plebes are not allowed to acknowledge you in any way ... and could get in trouble for it ... saying farewell and sending him/her back in to the sound of christmas carols (which my son thought was funny) should be the end ... don't be the helicopter parents

THought Two: On Friday morning of PPW we went to their early workout ... that was OK, though they forgot to tell the gate guards about it ... we did see them running, saw the 'Dant working out and running with them at dawn ... it was wonderful ...and our son saw us ... which thrilled him to pieces ... but this was FRIDAY ... with the weekend ahead of us ... not Monday, when the rest of plebe summer was ahead of them ...

From my experience, being there Monday morning after PPW got me a huge smile from my son. But he was not one who had trouble going back.......he likes it there and did not mind seeing me that morning. I guess if your kiddo was having doubts or trouble bucking up, seeing mom and pop the Monday morning could be tough.

Parents, you've just a long and wonderful WE with your child. Come Sunday, he/she goes back to the brigade. He/she will be ok.

Go home. If you have to stay over to make your flight, take an early flight Monday morning so you just have time to get to the airport. Don't go onto the yard to try to catch a glimpse of you child. It's awkward for everyone and really won't help your child in any way -- think of him/her before yourself. I would have been mortified if my parents had done this . . . of course, I grew up in an era before helicopter parents.
