Questions for a Current Mid

Through AP test scores and/or plebe tests, see specific academy rules for details, plebes can validate or get credit for some core courses. For USNA, see here. I am pretty sure some tests can be taken online prior to arriving at the academy which might make it a little easier to test and do well.

Are you allowed to have a coffee maker in your room?

According the MidRegs, you need to be a 2/C to have a coffee maker, but most Youngsters I know have one. If you want one as a plebe, depends on your company, and if you're company doesn't allow it how good you are at hiding it.

King hall serves coffee at every meal, and the library has a little coffee shop in the back with specialty drinks like cappuccinos and mochas and stuff like that (the library coffee is NOT free, but king hall coffee IS free).

On average, how much sleep do you get a night?

Plebe Summer - 7.5 hours

Plebe Year - 6.5-7 hours

Youngster Year - 5-6 hours

Usually go to sleep around 12 or 1, and I wake up at 6:30 to shower and get ready every morning for formation.

What does validating online mean?

If you get accepted, based on some high school level courses you took, you will need to take a test online before you get here. These tests are timed and for the math test you are not allowed to use a calculator on. Based on your test results, you will get a chance to validate other courses. During the summer, you get a chance to validate any language, calculus 3 if you did well on the online test, physics and chemistry. You can also test out of some history classes if you contact the department head.

hope that answers your question

Can you comment?

Alecpro, you've been really helpful. It was kind of you to offer to answer questions and I thank you because you are obviously very busy.

One more thing, can you comment on the concerned parents thread (on parents forum)?

Hello Night, Air Force Week, Service Assignment, Army Week, etc. are all in good fun. No one who actually lives in Bancroft Hall thinks much of it. Sometimes real damage happens due to a lapse in judgement (you mean 18 year old plebes can make mistakes and be absolutely stupid at times? impossible!), but things are fixed and no one is hurt.

Question about validating physics SP211 for HS seniors. DS is taking AP Physics B and Calculus B as a senior in HS and doing well in both. Does the AP Physics B class adequately prepare kids to validate SP211, or do the kids that validate SP211 typically take AP Physics C in HS? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Just saw this was addressed earlier in this thread. Please ignore

3/C and 4/C are not authorized to have a coffee maker. 1/C and 2/C are.
