Hello!

I am from NYC, Manhattan, and I was wondering if anyone would like to carpool? The truth is, no one in my family drives - which has its up and downs - and currently my plan is to take the Port Authority Bus. However, their first bus of the day leaves NYC at a little over 8-ish, and I was becoming a bit wary of making it on time for R-day.

Its actually very funny that people from all over the country can make it, but a kid who lives 50 miles South has difficulty . Nevertheless, I do not mean to mock anyone. I am keeping the option of using public transportation, but I would very much appreciate if anyone would be willing to consider this option and help a desperate fellow prospective new cadet:thumb:.

In addition, I would very much appreciate information on any other alternative methods of travel besides the Port Authority Bus.

Thank you for your time and attention!

If I were you I would accept USMA's optional hotel package (they will cover the cost of the hotel and bus transportation to USMA the next day) and take the bus up to the hotel on the 27th. That way there is no risk of not making it on time.

what vampsoul said.

West Point will provide transportation for you regardless of where you are - contact admissions.
Your parents can take the train up to Peekskill on R-Day and then take a cab over to West Point to the Thayer gate. Right inside Thayer gate they can take the shuttle up the hill (or walk).

Thank you very much for the information. I agree that this way there will be no dread over making it on time. My only concern is where they will pick me up. In addition, I wouldn't feel right making my mother take a train, and then a cab, on the morning of R-day by herself. I will try asking admissions about this option.

Thank you, ma'am, for the information. I will ask admissions about the details of this option.

Your other option is to get a hotel room the night before near the academy...you have several options...maybe they are not all booked.

Check out the Metro North Train to Garrison NY. There is a train that leaves Grand Central Station at 6:41 AM and arrives at 7:53 PM. Cab is around $15 I think. If your social security number requires a early morning checkin, take advantage of the hotel night prior. I help out with the USMA NYC admissions field force - email me at george.m.robertson@ms.com if you cannot make arrangments.
