66 Days! I have the countdown clock on my phone. Last night was DD's last HS softball game. Next time I see her play it will be in a Coast Guard uniform! So many mixed emotions. So proud and so excited but also a little panicky about the sadness of not seeing her every day anymore. But we could not be happier about her choice to attend the Academy and serve in the Coast Guard. As a tradeoff, I plan to buy myself a motorcycle to cheer myself up! I'm completely revamping my persona from softball mom to biker chick!!! LOL!!!:thumb:

I'm more excited for the countdown on my clock that ends in 25 Days and 1 hour....

Hang on to your covers kids, it's a whirlwind of a four year ride.

    Ticking away the moments
That make up a dull day
    Fritter and waste the hours
    In an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground
    In your home town
    Waiting for someone or something
    To show you the way

I'm no Captain McCauley, but I did write the first page of the running light.

(they're selling the running light at the exchange so I figure I might as well post it here... the swabs won't have too much time to read it on R-Day).

    To the Class of 2017:

Welcome to the United States Coast Guard Academy Swab Summer training program. Congratulations on taking the first step to earning your commission, and serving our country as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. The easy part is behind you; obtaining an appointment was difficult, but it is nothing compared to the four-year challenge that awaits you. Your decision to accept this challenge distinguishes you from your peers, who will travel a much easier path. You have chosen to go where few dare, and the path will be much more demanding. From greater challenge comes greater rewards.

Swab Summer is the Coast Guard Academy’s seven-week basic indoctrination program. It is the first hurdle you will have to overcome, and it will test you in ways you could never anticipate. Your summer experience can be characterized by one word: Intensity. You will be pushed harder, faster, and further than you ever thought possible, and you will find yourself preforming at a level previously unimaginable. This summer will be forever ingrained in your memory as one of the toughest things you have ever done.

The 200-week Academy experience will continue to push you to grow and change, as you will be constantly tested, and pushed to your limits. You will learn to rely on your classmates when you are weak, and they will learn to rely on you. Without this trust, you, and they, will fail. The Academy teaches you to put others’ needs, and the needs of the service, before your own. The idea of “Service before Self” takes on a whole new meaning.

We, the Class of 2015, are your Cadre. We look forward to the opportunity to train and shape your class, the Class of 2017. Under our instruction, you will become part of a tradition that stretches back to the formation of these United States. This tradition demands disciplined minds and a sense of physicality: Follow us, and we will give you both. Follow us, and you will gain the tools to succeed, both as a Cadet, and as a future Officer in the world’s finest Coast Guard. A new culture, new friendships, and a new way of life await you: Follow us, and we will lead you there.

    Welcome to Swab Summer.

    Respectfully,

    The Class of 2015

I was holding my breath until I came to this line. Glad to see it in there. Very very true!

Nicely done. Good luck to the future new swabs (and the future is very very near). Have fun now (and I mean, actually have fun and relax), because in a few days your life will get a whole lot less fun and relaxation will be a thing of the past.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps this petty pace from day to ... tomorrow.

We are here. Swab2B is last year CGAS, seems pretty ready. All last years CGAS that I met today were pretty much the same.
