I thought that it would be a great idea to have a thread for the count down for R-Day. 47 days left?

Here's something we saw at the exchange to help increase your anticipation a bit

Make sure your parents grab a 2014 cap (or two...) on R-Day if you think they might like one. I bought one for myself, and to this day I think my husband wishes he had bought one too. I guess I could share....

 Your cadre are being trained by the CCs from Cape May as we speak.

They are eagerly awaiting your arrival. :hammer:

Son just needs to sign one or two more forms and then paperwork is ready to be sent in. Vtshirts have been bought. Immunizations are scheduled. I know there is a lot more to do, but feeling pretty good UNTIL I read that Rday is in only 46 days. Yikes! Asking for the many moms out there, how do we prepare OURSELVES for Rday?

Shellz, thanks for the picture. Nice of you to think of us!!!

Hey Shellz, Pics look good. I'll be scooping on some of those hats.

Luigi and Shellz, are ya'll going to be there on Parent Weekend this year?

Yes! We will have to meet up. :thumb:

We will defintely have to get a few of those hats! I think younger brother would love one also!!

I hope to be able to meet you all face to face at R-day. I can't believe how quickly it is approaching.

All items are bought, still a few forms to fill out, dental appointment yesterday (shoot! one cavity to fill before he leaves! he's never even had a cavity beore!), last immunization Thursday!

Quick question: On R-day, besides in the bookstore, are there alot of regional parent associations selling CGA memorabilia?

Thanks!

44 Days!

Time seems flying by. Still haven't received the acceptance packet (the one you get after you accept an appointment)

You can go to the Parent's Association web site to download the Cadet Handbook and Parent's Handbook to get a head start on what you need to start buying (or ordering, or applying for, etc).

Question about Passport

I have a quick question about my son's passport. He has a current passport that is good through 2012, but not 2014 like the CGA information states. When he got his a couple of years ago they were only issues for 5 years since he was a minor. My question is "will this passport be acceptable?' or do we need to start the renewal process? If I remember correctly, they take your old passport when they process the renewal and I don't want him to get there and not have any passport. Plus, his current one is good through 2012, for another two years. Does anyone know what we should do in this case?

USCGA Cadet Handbook said:
Make sure you have a U.S. Tourist Passport valid through June 1, 2014. The process to obtain a passport can take up to eight weeks, so plan accordingly.

If your passport will not arrive before R-Day, arrange for someone to send it to you via certified mail to arrive no later than July 22, 2010.

IMHO I would reapply now because once your son is at the Academy it will become more difficult for him to find time to do this.
It seems like it's not taking too long for the return (DD was received 3 weeks to the day from application). My advice would be to go to one of the larger Post Offices where they are well versed in filing applications.

Passport

We were in the same situation, hired a passport service and had it expidited. I think it took about 3 weeks to get the adult passport which is good for 10 years.

Passport service will cost ($100) but they walk you thru it and get it fast.

We just used a local post office. If over 16 the passport applicant must sign everything. Parent only necessary to provide money
There doesn't seem to be any kind of backlog. We took DD in on a Saturday and 10 days later received new passport; 4 days after that we received the old passport.
If you don't receive the passport before RDay you can always mail it to your Swab.
