What is the r-day schedule for June 27th? What time does the cadet report Monday morning? What is the parent schedule, if any, that day?

New cadets will report based on the last number of their Social Security number. I think the first time was 6:00 or 6:30, 8:00, and 9:30. There will be a line of traffic to get on post so you need to take that into account.

As far as a schedule for parents, I don't really think there was one. The Supe spoke at a scheduled time and the Oath Ceremony took place at a certain time, but otherwise, we visited the booths in Ike Hall and took a wonderful free tour of WP. R-Day was DH's first time visiting and we went around and looked at everything.

Dixieland: didn't we just wander around aimlessly in a daze, buying stuff to make ourselves feel better??

:shake::shake: Yes, we did! LOL! DH and I ate lunch in Ike Hall and afterwards, I told him, "I saw some cups of Ben and Jerry's....I NEED some." He thought I had lost my mind because I am not a dessert person but that day called for ice cream and mindless eating! I bought all kinds of stuff and put in my cool USAA tote bag. I love that thing!

I guess the daze is why I really can't remember what we did the rest of the day! We left the next day for a vacation in New England and I will never forget the knife in my heart when I had to put my cadet's cell phone and stuff in the car without him there.

Agreed on all counts - R Day for parents was a quick goodbye, lots of retail therapy, lots of food, and meeting with the chaplains. By the time I had dragged younger siblings around (starting at 6:30am, when we were in a different time zone and jetlagged, in a heat we were not used to), none of us cared about the supe's briefing and napped through it at our hotel. We made it back for the oath ceremony and some ominous quiet afterward.

The knife in my heart was at the end of the Oath ceremony when the NCs marched into Washington Hall and when the last one was in, two cadre pulled those huge doors shut. I'll never forget that 'Thud'. A lot of symbolism there.
It was definitely time for some Retail Therapy.

I remember sitting in the stands and watching/hearing those big doors slam shut ......and thinking oh boy the journey begins! Now they're second semester cows.

I think that there must be a 'Washington Hall door slamming' practice for the cadre. It was done in such unison and with such bravado that I think it must have been intentional to send a message to the parents.

I had forgotten about the slamming of the doors; that was awful also! The next heart-wrenching time for me came when I saw my NC in the pictures of everyone marching to the Fourth of July concert. He looked gaunt, sweaty, haggard, with dark circles under his exhausted eyes and I wished I could go back and get him and bring him home. However, when I showed him the pictures over A-Day, he said admiringly, "Man, I look good!" :shake: Now when I look back at the pictures, after he and I both survived Beast, he did look good!

Driving off post that early evening is something I will never forget...helplessness.

Anyone have trouble going in the room of their NC after R-DAY?
I couldn't go in DS's room for weeks.
He thought that was funny when I told him that A-Day. Now he teases me whenever he returns to WP after leave - "Have you gone in my room yet?"
