    Hi All,

Preliminary/NASS applications do not open until January 15th. However I, a current Junior in high school, have already received an invitation to a CVW January 29th-31st and will be attending. I was curious as to how my name got in the hat. So far i have attended a Navy Baseball Camp and contacted my BGO. Of course I am pleased that i was invited and have a spot im simply curious about how or why they invited me. I was not under the impression they had enough information on me to extend this offer. Any insight into the invitation process on the Academy's end would be my obliged.

Have you taken the ACT/SAT already and listed the academy to receive your test scores? This along with other demographic information such as gender, race, geographical location, potential to be a recruited athlete, etc. can all garner invitations.

The same thing happened to me when I was a junior. I don't remember giving any information except for requesting more info from USNA (I think I listed my PSAT score and gender and race). I think it's an early indicator that they like what they see from you so far. It may have just been a coincidence or irreverent but I was invited to and went to the junior CVW, got accepted to NASS, got an LOA, and got an appointment.

If you completed the SAT profile at their website and indicated an interest in ROTC/Military, the academies can receive that information, along with ranges of test scores when you allow release of information to colleges. They can also match this info to you, if you have registered or requested more information at the academy website.

The SAT profile on their website? I've been unable to locate that so far... It makes since that they could have got them from college board though.

At the Collegeboard.org website, they have the "Big Future" section where you can put in criteria to find a school match. One of the selections is ROTC. If you select that, you would be identifying yourself as someone interested in serving. Also, if you've selected USNA as a school of interest on the same area of the website, they will forward information onto the academy.

If you attended the Navy Baseball Camp, my guess is it possibly came from that

I also received an invitation today. I believe that I understand why I got it, but I was just wondering, is it normal for juniors to get the invitations? I was under the impression that they generally came from the Admissions board to competitive applicants. So, is this invitation a good sign, or am I just reading into it too much?

While I understand this will probably be speculation on your part, would you assume all kids that went to the camp received an invite or only those that the coaches had a potential interest in?

@Mudge540 My guess is as good as yours. I have taken the SAT and had my scores sent to the Academy. I filled out the "Big Future" section on the Collegeboard website. I requested more information from the Academy on their website. So I guess any of those could have been triggers. Anyway, congratulations on your invitation. I'll see you at the January one.
