Okay, so I have a couple of really random questions...and I'm sure a lot of other people do, too, so I thought I'd start a thread for it.

    1. Is it really windy at USAFA??? (I live in a windy place and want out!)
    2. For the ICs: On my NCAA clearinghouse status, it shows that my final transcripts have been sent. But there are two issues with that...first, I haven't graduated and it said it requires that proof of graduation be sent in...and second, I haven't even sent in a transcript request for it yet. Anybody else have this happen? Kind of confusing.
    3. How are the dorms organized? I think somebody told me a long time ago, but I don't remember. Is it organized by class/gender/squadron/etc, or just completely random?
    4. When do we find out if our college credits transfer? Will we only find out when they give us our schedules before the start of classes? It'd be really nice to know how many of my credits transfer.

I think that's about it for now. There'll be more later, I'm sure
And for the rest the future Falcons and parents, feel free to use this thread for your random questions as well.
    Thanks!

    1. We regularly get hurricane force winds, no joke. Victims of the Targa effect.
    2. no idea
    3. The dorms are arranged by squadrons. The halls are coed, the females congregate around their bathrooms
    4. You'd have to go to the specific departments once here, that's my assumption

Nope, I'm doing track. Pentathlon indoor and heptathlon out, but mainly jumps since there are only a couple of pentathlons/heptathlons each year.

    Cross country for you?

My sons' NCAA clearinghouse stuff was messed up forever - it seems they are not good about recording documents which come their way. good luck with that one.

My sons found out during BCT which classes they validated.

    That's awesome DMAC.

Nope, no x-country for me. I'm actually the parent of an appointee. I run but, well, you know... 8 minute miles lol. Anyway, I noticed your avatar and quote from Prefontaine and thought you might be a distance runner. I was just wondering what kind of times a guy needs to run in order to be recruited as an IC runner. My son ran x-country for 5 years. I think his 5k PR was just over 16 minutes... or maybe a high 15. He really never wanted to run in college but I think he told me that his times wouldn't be fast enough anyway.

Hurricane force winds...awesome... Guess I'll just have to deal with that one...

Isn't there a better place to congregate??? Haha of all the places I've congregated, the bathrooms never seemed too appealing.

Yeah they're really bad at this game. For months it showed that my transcripts from freshman and sophomore year had shown up, but my transcripts from my school now hadn't. I made sure they were sent...but they just never showed the transcripts as being received. Then today I look and EVERYTHING's complete. Huh.

Ohhh ok, gotcha. Well hey, I'll be happy if I could say I run 8 minute miles when my kids are off to college! Lol.
But yeah, I ran cross country and did long, triple, high jump and the 4x800 for my first two years of high school. But now I go to the Missouri Academy and we don't have organized athletics. I filled out my scores and times from freshman/sophomore years on an athletic recruiting form, just for kicks, and ended up getting recruited. Guess I just got really lucky.

Even though I'm not running cross country anymore, Pre's my hero. Without Limits is also one of my all-time favorite movies!

I know for high school, 15-16 minute 5k's are really good for guys. I think the head honchos in college are a little faster, but they usually train a lot more so it's expected. A good friend of mine was named something along the lines of Division II MIAA Freshman of the Year, and he ran a 32 minute 10k. Of course, it's not Division I, but that's the best thing I have to compare it with. If he's saying he wouldn't be fast enough...either he's been misinformed or it's just an excuse not to. If he does want to be recruited, he'd probably be best off filling out the form on their website because then they know he's interested. There are so many people, it's hard for them to know everything about everyone.

As soon as I saw this question I thought of ds52262...his daughter has to be escorted on very windy days...so I guess the answer is YES!

Just to add a little. My friend from 8th grade just got a full ride to Michigan to run cross country there. His PR was low 15 or high 14 I think. So I bet with good training he could probably run for some schools.

Yes ds52262's daughter is tiny and she gets 2 escorts I believe on very windy days. I believe she is barely 5' and 100 lbs, so they need to anchor her to others. Everytime I invision that in my mind I just see her in the middle and her legs flying back.:shake:

yep we get pretty rough winds. sucks having a bed right next to the window at night when a storm is rollin in :) we have high wind advisories, when they dont let us use the t-zo because we may get blown off. especially the bridges connecting the t-zo with fairchild..

LOL That's crazy! Has anyone ever come really close to flying off the t-zo? I'd hope nobody's actually fallen...would be pretty messy...
