I want to be a ranger. What exactly is Ranger Challenge? How does it work? Do I become a ranger when I complete it? This is my dream to become a Ranger, so can anybody help? Thanks

Ranger Challenge is Army ROTC's "varsity sport." Annually, more than 300 universities nationwide field teams to compete in a series of challenging events. Training for this event includes rigorous physical fitness workouts, information classes on various elements of light infantry tactics, and a weekend Field Training Exercise where the team practices rifle marksmanship, rope bridge, land navigation, and other infantry skills.*

Becoming a Ranger is seperate from "Ranger challenge".

Yes you can. My daughter has already looked into it. I suggest you wait until at least your sophomore year though so you can get aquainted to the course workload that nursing is going to require. At some schools we have talked with, the Ranger Challenge cadets work out every day, for a longer period of time.

ok thanks k2rider, seems like youve been answering all my questions. lol. So where on this forum do i ask someone about what rotc is like at the specific university im going to attend?

At the college I'm going to next year, the PMS explained that regular work outs are 3 days a week. Ranger Challengers work out 5-6 days a week.

I guess you can have the PMS have a current cadet e-mail you?

I know both of the PMS' at (2) of the schools on my daughters list had cadets e-mail her w/o us even asking. One of them at the Univ or Portland is a nursing cadet and they have e-mailed back & forth 50+ times. My daughter actually stayed with that cadet on her campus visit as well.

I'm on my school's Ranger team. We work out five days a week at 0600 and have Ranger labs Friday afternoons. We also do a fall and spring FTX in addition to the battalion ones, and have tons more field training then normal cadets.

It all depends on the cadre member advising the the team and what they want to do.
