Hi, I doubt anyone will see this but I'm trying to get more information about my unusual situation. My grades in high school were not anywhere close enough for admission to any academy (around 3.1), the only exceptional thing I did was sports in which i was a multiple state medalist and 1 time champion. Fast forward a year, I'm currently at a community college taking credited courses and have around a 4.0. In addition to the academics I am involved in student government, as well as volunteering around the city. I'm just wondering if I apply to a service academy if I have a chance in hell, I don't want any b.s just give it to me straight, I understand that people won't be able to say yes/no definitively but if you could just give me any feedback at all it would be greatly appreciated. My father was also an academy graduate and I've heard that is factored into your package for some extra points. I am willing to apply more than once if I'm denied for this next year, but I'd just like some opinions from this site so, if anyone has any info or knowledge about situations similar to mine please post, thanks.

Your chances of getting accepted will be 0% if you don't apply.

In regards to the community college thing, I went to one after high school and got accepted into USAFA Prep afterwards.
My high school GPA was around the same as yours.

Keep your grades up and don't forget that they are looking at the WHOLE PERSON. Show them that you will be successful.

Best of luck to you

Remember, you can reapply until you age out. I told my son that I would support his effort even if he ended up with two college degrees! It's all about following your dream.

You can make it, but it won't be easy. I made it this year(class of 2019) with a direct appointment after 1 year at a 4 year university. I had a 3.24 GPA(USAFA calculated) in high school, but came to college and 3.8 GPA my first semester as an aerospace engineer. Never give up because you can do it.

I attended a 4 year college and earned a 4.0 GPA with 3 semesters as an aerospace engineer. I was number 8 in my high school with a 3.87 GPA. I was not selected for an appointment this year. I plan on doing ROTC, and earn a commission that way. Best of luck to you!
