I was put on the waiting list for West Point 2 weeks ago and then I got a letter in the mail yesterday stating that I was fully qualified but that there was not room for me. In other words I got rejected. I have the strongest desire to attend West Point and so I want to reapply. Does anyone have any helpful tips on how to reapply and what I can do to improve my chances of getting in next year?

Thank you.

Additional info: I have received an Army ROTC scholarship and will be attending Florida Institute of Technology until I get accepted to West Point. I am also on the waiting list for NAPS and I was rejected from USAFA and USCGA.

Contact your admissions officer and ask for their advice. I have seen on here that a number of applicants are successful their second/third time through.

Excellent advise from GoArmyBeatNavy.
Your RC will know where your file was weak and can make recommendations on how to improve your file.
Another reason to contact the RC is so that he knows you are reapplying.

Another resource is the "Instructions for Applicants' pdf in your portal.
Check out pg. 8 for instructions on the 'how to' part of reapplying.

Good luck! :thumb:

I went to the candidate portal and looked at the reapplying part. I am going to be attending college on an Army ROTC scholarship at Florida Institute of Technology and I will reapply from there. So here are my questions. I heard that my DODMERB is good for two years, is this correct? How soon can I take my CFA for my new application? For the school official’s evaluator form, will I be using my college instructors for that? When can I start my application for a presidential nomination? My most important question is when can I start reapplying? I am determined to get into West Point and I want to get my application done as soon as possible and improve the weaknesses that I had in my profile last year. I still have not heard back yet from my admissions officer though.

I heard that my DODMERB is good for two years, is this correct?
Yes - but keep DoDMERB updated on any medical changes

How soon can I take my CFA for my new application?
When your application opens up - which will be this summer.

For the school official’s evaluator form, will I be using my college instructors for that?
Yes - WP prefers that these evaluations be from English and Math college professors but they will accept evals from others.

When can I start my application for a presidential nomination?
Today - but pursue all other noms that you are qualified for, including the ROTC nom that will be available to you this year.

My most important question is when can I start reapplying?
June or July. That is when the SSK (On-line application) will open for applicants. Complete your file EARLY!

I still have not heard back yet from my admissions officer though.
Not surprising as they are busy right now with finishing up the 2016 class.

Some other advise-
- keep taking the ACT/SAT - raise those scores!
- take college classes that you would be taking as a Plebe at West Point
- make 'As' in those classes. Prove to WP that you can succeed in college.
- Your file will not be evaluated until WP receives your 1st Semester transcripts. Send those in as soon as they are available and then follow up with your RC to make sure he received it.
