DS is planning on attending a 4yr college and reapplying for 2016. In looking at classes to sign up for he has a choice of Chem with lab or Chem for Engineers without lab. He plans on majoring in systems engineering. Any recommendations on which class he should take? Does AF look for a lab? (He took AP Physics with lab senior year and aced both.)

Thanks for the advice!

Either class is good, GPA will be the most important factor along with joining ROTC.

Is it already his time to sign up for class? I would suggest lab if he could get it but any chem would be good if he could not get the lab. I know at NWP they encouraged all of us to try and get a chem lab if possible.

Hands down, with lab. The chem courses at USAFA include lab so having a lab course is better.

more important question: which one would count towards his degree if he doesn't go? things change AND they both look fine, so you would be wise to choose which one he'd need for his degree.

Ok, I am in the same situation, except I am going to a community college next semester that doesnt offer ROTC. Will it hurt bad if i dont take ROTC? I talked with my USAFA admissions counselor 2 days ago (notified me of QNV letter, and got it today) and he gave me a list of classes to take next year, and one WAS ROTC. I have strong EC's to begin with, (he said I had a really high EC score for WCS), so Im hoping it wouldnt hurt too bad for next year's application.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, whether it did or not, what can you do about it? If it's not offered and other det isn't nearby, then why worry?

In a less cheeky answer, if it's not available, it's not held against you.

Thanks, thats the answer I needed! In that case, I will just focus on keeping that 4.0 in college.
