Got the TWE this year, and will be attending VMI next year with Army ROTC, hungry as hell to get a slot to the USMA class of 2019. I want to get on the reapplying game as early as possible. Anyone with prior experience wanna share with me what the timetable is for reapplying to USMA? Even better, reapplying from a SMC? Thanks.

Hi Jarhead, I am in the same spot, I am doing ROTC for a year, and will be reapplying for USMA class of 2019. I know that we don't have to take our DODMERB exams again, I think they are good for 2 years. I was curious if anyone knew if the same teachers would have to fill out the teacher evaluations, or if we would have the option of having our professors fill them out. Thanks, good luck reapplying.

You'll have to get two new SOEs. Preference is to your professors. They'll be listed as SOE Other in your file and you'll have some latitude on who you chose (since you already have the English, Math, and Chem/Physics on file).

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Is there anything else important you would recommend doing to increase your chances of admission. For example I am retaking the SAT next month to improve my scores. I have also started a dialogue with my congressman's office on how to improve my file. Thanks again for the prompt response.

Take classes that are similar to USMA plebe year as best you can.

    Teacher evaluations...

Our son was in a slightly different situation, but the info may still apply. He's a freshman at college now, and was re-applying to the Naval Academy and applying for the first time to USMA. You are correct, the DoDMERB exam is good for two years so he didn't have to get another exam - all he had to do was ask USMA to contact DodMERB and get the results from his Naval exam the year before.

As far as teacher evals, Navy still had his original file including his high school teacher evals so all he had to do was get two more from his college Calc and English professors. He also had to get his Candidate Activities Record from high school verified again by the high school staff.

USMA was a little trickier... since it was his first application, they didn't already have HS teacher evals, but the application instructions on the WP portal clearly say that college applicants only need to get SOEs from their college profs, and that a Prof of Military Science is acceptable for the science SOE. So - he had his college profs submit their SOEs in late December, and his portal showed all green so he thought he was done.

Then in mid February, two weeks before the application deadline, USMA posted a letter on his portal saying he was missing his HS SOEs, and if he didn't submit them by Mar 1st, his file would be closed. Our son called Admissions, said instructions don't call for those, has there been a mistake? No, you have to get all 3 HS SOEs as well. and at that point, 3 more SOE slots appeared on his portal with red X's next to them. All teachers were glad to help, but for some reason the portal would not accept the SOE from his HS science teacher. He tried multiple times right up to the deadline day with no luck, and they actually closed our son's file! It finally took a call to the admissions office and staying on the line with them, while I was on another phone with the HS teacher in order to get the admissions staff to admit that they could see his SOE come into the system and get rejected by their computer. At that point they manually overrode the system and made it accept the SOE. And then they re-opened our son's file. Talk about nerve-wracking!

SO - next fall, I would have an email exchange with the Admissions Office as to whether or not you need to have HS SOEs as well as from your college profs. That way, no matter what the answer is, you'll have it in writing. And I would also suggest finishing your app as early as possible - so that the only things you need to do in December are submit in your semester grades and have your profs submit their SOEs. Also - talk to the profs early and often about your Academy goals and how important their SOEs are to your success! Best of luck to all re-applicants! :thumb:

    Did he get in???

My DS also got the TWE and will be enrolled in ROTC. He will take a very rigorous schedule (WP cadets take 18-21 hours, so my son will be in that range). After the TWE arrived, DS contacted his RC and asked what he suggested he do to increase chances for next year. RC sent a very detailed email outlining time frame for what needed to be done. I suggest your DSs and DDs contact their RCs for similar info.

mom3boys - believe it or not, we still don't know! No TWE or BFE, no change on the portal. We're slowly going insane... our son really doesn't want to call admissions, partly because the responses from them became increasingly short and more terse during the SOE fiasco. Maybe he also doesn't want to hear "oh, sorry - we forgot all about you!"

All I know is this: he'll be home from college this Thursday night, and if we haven't heard something by then we'll just withhold food until he calls. We are so far beyond done with the mailbox stalk every day...

Send an email to your RC...much easier than trying to reach them on the phone.

To OP: Definitely time table wise, get any high school transcripts/letters of recommendation before summer gets out. Most high school teachers are out for the summer, and it might be a pain to get everything if you're away at a new school in the fall.

    Good luck to your son.

While I can see the benefit in having him take a rigorous schedule, ensure he is able to get really good grades, too.
