Rebuttal for Mood Disorder

It took a while for DoDMERB to review our followup information submitted for rebuttal. We called DoDMERB a week after submission and asked if the new material was being reviewed. We were told that it had been received and was submitted for review. A few days later we received a call letting us know that the review & decision would be made by a board consisting of at least three medical staff. There was another week delay until they could meet. I would give them a call to check the status. They were very helpful each time we called. I was one nervous father during those weeks. I still have the fingers and toes crossed for your son.

Checked DoDMBERB site. Now it indicates a new entity: USARMY CSB which indicates son is disqualified. USMA still indicates pending waiver submission/review. Had a nice talk with one of the DoDMERB doctors who couldn't discuss medical reasons due to HIPPA, but did encourage my son to apply to ROTC and to re-apply to West Point next year. It looks as though DoDMERB will not remove the DQ. As I said in an earlier post, ROTC at his college has sent his name in as a candidate for a scholarship but looks like we still have the DoDMERB DQ. I didn't know what USArmy CSB stands for -- it's not on the list of acronyms that accompany the waiver instructions. Any one know? thanks.

The CSB (or CSP as it is known to the detachments) program is the in-college based scholarship program. Applicants placed into that program should be current college students, and normally it is a 2 or 3 year scholarship. I would have to assume that your son was placed into that program erroneously if he is currently not in college. DoDMERB can not change this, it will have to be changed either by the detachment who gave his name to DoDMERB or by Army Cadet Command.

Thank you, RetNavyHM. I have notified both the college and Cadet Command so hopefully things will get straightened out, and Army ROTC will grant him the waiver. It also appears that the USMA waiver is still pending which I guess is good news, but the DoDMERB doctor that talked to my son said the USMA class of 2011 was full. It would be great to get the waiver from USMA after all, even if he doesn't get a spot, just because he has fought so hard.

jaysmom,

Don't give up on the wavier for WP, you never know if at the last minute someone may decide thats not the direction they want to go in life, and a slot will open up. Happens every year.

Medical waiver for Army ROTC has been APPROVED!!! I am proud of my son for keeping on with the fight, and while it's not WP, he is very excited about ROTC. He can pursue his dream of a career in the military.

Thanks, RetNavyHM, for all your advice and encouragement.

Many, many congratulations!! Also, congratulations go to the parents for sticking with it as well, and not throwing up thier hands! I'm glad I could help to point you in the right direction, and I'm also glad that there was a positive outcome. Again, congratulations to all, and make sure you enjoy this weekend!!
