Our son received his nomination letter today to the Naval Academy; he received the principal nomination, and the letter stated the Naval Academy makes final decision. I have been researching the last few days the nomination info about the 3'Q because we have not been told he is scholastically/academically qualified but he is medically and physically qualified. So, we are still in the hot seat, "heavy sigh"! He does not have an LOA, however, I have read on this site this is nothing usual. He also applied at the CGA and we have heard nothing yet. So, I know we will be hearing from others since the nomination letters have gone out in some areas. We are very excited and good luck to those waiting on their nomination letters.

That is unusual. If his application was submitted by the Early Action deadline of Nov 1st, he should have received either:

1. Appointment
2. Conditional Appointment
3. Deferral to Regular Admissions
4. Rejection

Let me know if you wish to investigate his status any further, it is very unlike the admissions department at USCGA to leave a candidate unsure as to his status at this point.

Oh sorry Luigi for the way I worded that "we hadn't heard"; we did hear in December that he was deferred to regular admission. I just meant that we hadn't heard after being deferred to RA and I know that will still be several weeks out. Thanks so much for the comments and offer to follow up though.

Maui, remember to make sure your candidate updates his file at USCGA in order for them to review his file under RA.
Our son is in "the same boat."

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Congrats to your son on his USNA nomination!

As a principal nominee, as long as he is 3Q'd, he gets the appointment! :yay:

Hey Luigi,
Thanks for the congrats! Just waiting to hear if he's academically qualified.

When the appointment to USCGA arrives and your son has to choose, which destination will get the nod, New London or Annapolis?

Hey Luigi,

I lost my original response to your post, but, the answer is I don't know what choice he will make. I do know that he flew to New London for Cadet day this past November, mirrored a cadet, ran on the track, went to classes, meetings, etc... and had an absolutely wonderful time; he loved it. He could not have had a better trip. He loved the campus, just highly impressed. He hasn't been to Annapolis, nor had he had his interview with the congressman's reps at that time. What I do know, is that during this entire process that has driven his mother crazy 24/7, he has been poised, patient, has had faith and confidence in that I can tell that "he knows that beyond a shadow of a doubt that if he should have to make a choice, he will make the right choice". Which it will be, I just don't know.
