It is that time of year again...the PFT/AFT. So my question is, if you fail the PFT/AFT and you are an IC athlete do you still get to participate in your sport? I know that for me it will be close on both of them. Will I be placed in Recondo or will I still be able to work with my team?

I think its best if you ask your element leader (or start with your C3C coach). I don't know if that is squadron or wing dependent.

Good advice. We definitely have our share of current cadets on the forum, but y'all are usually the ones providing answers to "Current Cadet life" questions. Seems like the perfect person for you to ask, is your IC coach. If anyone is going to know if you are eligible or not for practices or to play, S/He will. And if you explain the PFT/AFT problem you're having, S/He may even be able to get your Strength and Conditioning coach to modify your training to help you with the PFT/AFT areas you are weak on.

But as an active cadet at the academy, you have access to much more accurate information than we do. This goes with any question on this forum. If you are a current cadet, and your question(s) are direct academy related, you can get a much more accurate answer there on the hill than any of us can provide. Don't forget to share your knowledge.

When is the PFT/AFT? I always remember taking it just prior to and after parents weekend. If that's true, and you're currently borderline, work your *** off these next couple weeks. You certainly won't validate, but it might be enough to bump you over the edge.

Shame on you! An IC athlete and on recondo!

(I can say that bc my son was the same, then got a perfect score on the PFT; his name is on the fieldhouse wall. So, start cranking)

    Here's the backstory:

Son had decided to leave the fencing team, to pursue other opportunities (wound up captain of the Nordic ski team), but decided, well, I'm not an IC athlete any longer, and golly, I'm just tired, so I think I'll take a nap. He did, for three days in a row, until someone caught him at it. Then, recondo for him! Ironically, he was in charge of cadets on recondo at the time! He was a marathon runner, skier, weight lifter, boxer, all-around superb athlete, on recondo.

Got a 500 on the PFT and graduated with athletic distinction.

But was on recondo there, for a little while, all the same.

Now, get busy. Tell the fencersmother YOUR name is on the wall at graduation.

Wait, so he got himself on athletic probation by skipping intramurals? I've never actually heard of someone who did that haha

Yes, he went from IC to non IC, and well, he took a nap.

If you are in season, you will not take the AFT and PFT.. If you fail you will not be put on recondo as an IC.
