How much help does being a recruited athlete offer when applying for an appointment to KP?

Since KP is D-3, they aren't given athletic spots. However, if a certain coach wants a certain athlete to play for and attend KP then they can pull some strings and get a LITTLE help from the admissions department. Granted, this is all pending the fact that the respective candidate/athlete is 3Q'd with nomination. The USMMA would rather have scholars, and turn them into athletes rather than have athletes with a poor academic background! This whole response is based off of my DS and others experiences that I have became aware of.

Once again, with KP, im pretty certain it goes back to your application+nomination status. I know if you are struggling in a certain area, USMMA will sponsor certain applicants to do a prep year. I'm sure coaches recommend prep school to certain recruits, but I don't know if they actually can get them sponsored slots just for being an athlete. AF, Navy and Army can grant athletic appointments to their prep schools (ie. USAFAPS, USMAPS and NAPS) since they are D-1 and have slots specifically for athletes.

Sorry for the constant questions, but would you happen to know how many athletes are "recruited" to KP per year? Just trying to determine how big of a deal it is to be contacted by a coach. Thanks for all the help so far!

Hey, if it weren't for questions, this forum wouldn't exist! I am really only familiar with football (since my DS is a football recruit) but I am sure that all of the athletic teams are pretty similar in this regard. I know the football team has a lot of recruit visitation weekends, because they know that the more recruits they can bring in and have apply to KP, the greater chance they have of players receiving appointments!

It's a possibility! He uses the same account as I do though, so unless it is WKSLP, it is not my DS. My DS did a year of prep school, however, so if you have any questions about KP or prep school, send me a PRivate Message and I'll get you in touch with him to answer any questions!

It was another football recruit...sorry about that! But that would be a big help Since I will most likely be doing a year at NMMI as well. Hope to talk to you soon!
