Weathermom, Thanks! He is pretty psyched. He just saw that he will probably clep out most of his freshman classes based on his AP scores. This means he can do his double major of biochem engineering and something else science or english related. His heart will still be with all you Academy Cadets but he is moving on. Best of luck to all! GO IRISH Ok.... I feel a little guilty! Stats 14,000 applied only 2000 offered.

ALO Steve....send me a PM...love to know who you really are! I have a daughter with better stats than my son who wants to go to USAFA...currently competing for Boys and Girls Club of America for Youth of the Year. She needs to have a good ALO that has the real skinny on how to get in!! The days when we competed have changed completely and I obviously don't know the rules!

BTW, I have several awesome Lts working for me now that are absolutely outstanding (yes, I'm still in...0-6!). These Lts are from all three commissioning sources...wouldn't trade any of them for anyone!

To the parents: no matter what commissioning source...I can use them...the kids out there with a passion for life and purpose to serve their country is unprecidented...you all should be proud of your sons and daughters!!! The caliber of folks now entering USAFA, AFROTC, and OTS are absolutely fantastic. Mark my words...20-30 years from now, our Nation will be led by the best! I'm very comfortable about our Nation's future because of this!

P.S. Hell week...did I have one? Can't remember...but I do say that with "Chins In"....luckily that wasn't a problem. I wasn't in Ali Baber...started in Chickenhawks (known then as HypeHawks), the finsihed in Wolfpack with an awesome view of Blackforest and C-Springs!!! I'm sure 40 didn't have the same view...LOL!!!

Dont be hard on 40 they have a great veiw, and the number #1 scoring Hockey player too. Not to mention the smallest 2nd Beast Cadre member this summer.
 
I won't...view, however is questionable...go look out over the parade field from Wolfpack...for an entire year! Shortest...I'm there...size right!!! The best thing...bringing back those four squadrons from Sijan!!! Pink Panthers as the last SQ just wasn't right. Forty Thieves...now that's the ticket!!! However, I'm sure PC has changed the name...what is it now?
 
Warhawks....but Ali BaBa and the forty thieves still have a place. Considering a start in Country Club 8 the Warhawks seems to be a really nice place to finish.

Does anyone know the circumstances under which appointments are offered in april and later?

For a typical applicant will it occur only if the person in your district turns their the appointment or could you also receive one if somebody on the "the remaining slots are then filled with qualified candidates with nominations" list turns down an appointment. (ie does your only hope for getting one depend on the person in your district or is there another way).

I am just somewhat frustrated because I called my counselor to see if she could point to any things in specific that held my application back that I could improve for next year to which she replied that there were none and that my scores were very competitive and above average for the Academy but simply that there was no slot available.
 
WillTheThrill - such an appointment can come from any source not just your MOC district/slate. Many appointments are pulled from the national pool. Some, for one reason or another, will turn them down. The wait list is in rank order and the next one on the list gets an appointment when such a person turns it down ... well, it's a little more complicated than that - they make more offers knowing that some will decline. They back fill to get the class to the size that they desire. If fewer decline then expected, they will backfill with fewer from the NWL. If more decline than expected, they will fill with more form the WL. It just depends ... they have a targeted class size, which is smaller than the number of appointments sent out. They will manage the class size as acceptances/declinations are received and offer appointments to those on the NWL in merit order. However, there is not a one for one decline/NWL since the number of initial appointments offered is greater than the desired class size. Hope that makes sense ....

You may want to research the word "greystone" here at SAF to see the intense discussions that occured last year, many over CDR Bailey's inaccurate sales pitch in the Greystone literature.

K-Mom had her hands full when she shilled for Greystone last year, I hope you are ready this year. :wink:
