Welcome new parents of the class of 2016! Congratulations to your DS and DD (dear son, dear daughter) for making it into KP. You have a great deal of support in this forum. Even though Facebook pages for the new classes has become a popular thing, please, please, please, use this forum. It will provide you relief, information and BALANCE. There are many years of combined experience available through responses in current and older threads. You can PM (private message someone and receive a private one back). You can start a new thread, as I have. Welcome aboard and welcome to a new experience of a life time!

LOL Keep it up guys. I really enjoyed the forum during my DS time at USMMA and now that he has graduated I feel myself drawn back from time to time! Yes there is a wealth of knowledge here.

Thanks to everyone on the forum, my DS is a P/C in the Class of 2016. It has been a long process and all of the answers and support have been greatly appreciated. I look forward to the continued support and expertise from those that have gone before us!

I have wondered where the parents for 2014, 2015, and now 2016 are. I was beginning to think 2013 parents must have been a uniquely neurotic group because of all the time we spent using the forum as our lifeline.

It's good to know the subsequent parent groups also need support (but found it through social networking). Please visit the forum too where you get the perspective of so many more than just your fellow class parents.:shake:

I am seeking some guidance regarding the class of 2016 Facebook Page. My understanding is that it is secured. Since my DS is a Member of USMMA
2016, can anyone instruct me how to access this facebook page? Thank you!!

This is the link to the parent page.

You will not be able to access the candidate page as that is a seperate fb page run by students of the Academy. (Even rumored to have actually been initiated by a DI or two):shake: Sneaky!!!

    Indoc - first phone call?

I am not a Facebook user so have come here to post my question ... about what time of day will Plebe Candidates be allowed to make their first phone call? Can anyone share their history on this? Due to work I have numerous errands to do and I don't want to miss that very first important call. Thanks very much!

    Phone call

We got our first phone call around 5pm EST. I know that others got theirs as early as 8am. Expect to hear the Drill Instructors shouting and counting down the time in the background, this is normal

Glad to see new parents here!

    Don't miss this call!

The call could come anytime between 8:00am and 10:00pm eastern time. It depends on what company your DD/DS is in. It is impossible to predict. Whatever errands you have to do, you should do them on a different day or get someone else to do them for you. It is really important that your DD/DS has the opportunity to hear a friendly voice, especially early on during indoc. I have heard of cadre allowing a second attempt at a call if the first is missed, but I would not count on it. That first call from my DS three years ago was the fastest five minutes of my life, but it is a memory I will always cherish. Even though we were 2,000 miles apart, I have never felt closer to my DS than during that special call!

Since we knew we would not be home when that first call came through, we asked DS to call Dad's cell phone. Our call came around 4:30 in the afternoon, and I will always remember just how shell-shocked he sounded. Don't be alarmed if yours sounds the same way - by the time he called the following week, he sounded much better.

    First Call

I appreciate the responses concerning the timing of that "first call". I hope I didn't come across as someone who was not making time to be here for it because of work and weekend errands. Actually, quite the opposite is true! We live in the GMT +1 time zone and I now know that I have to be home by 2 pm and may have to stay up very late. I can still pick up my husband from the airport, take my younger child to and from work, do my errands and be home here by 2 pm our time.:thumb:
