After the Rats return to barracks tonight the much dreaded yet anticipated week will begin..(we believe). 2012 +3 push ups to be done in their spare time and one very long week to follow. Praying for the Rat Mass and all who make it possible.

yup, that's the scoop. The poor Rats (including my DS) are in for it this week. My DS just wants to get this over with. They have survived and prospered to this point and a person can endure anything if he/she knows that it will end on a date certain. I can't wait to see breakout video for the class of 2015 on Youtube.com. :thumb:

I am waiting to see if he can bring the grades up once this is over. Wise Bruno has stated that sometimes the opposite occurs because the extra freedoms lead to wasting time occasionally. My Rat swears by everything that is holy that he will have an easier time studying after Breakout. Time will tell.

Indeed, the extra freedoms will seem trivial to outsiders but to Rats, it will be like manna from heaven. We shall see how they handle it. They gotta grow up sometime.....

I just hope they don't quit at this point. They've gone through a lot but this week is the "unknown" ie hardest, toughest they have ever had in their lives. I think the unknown aspect is the hardest for them. Hell week was more than they expected, but they were warned about most of it, but didn't really digest it all until they were there. This week seems shrouded in silent intimidation.

Oh, I am not worried that they will quit. Their BRs will self-reinforce each other and together they will pull through because none of them want to be seen as a quitter at this point in the eyes of their BRs. Such is the culture of VMI. Very interesting.

I really don't have any idea of what the attrition rate is like just prior to break out. Most of those that have left so far that DS personally knew, he could see it coming for the most part and wasn't surprised. This far in,, It would be tough. I hope you are correct. As a parent I wouldn't want that call.

Amen to that but have faith in them. They will do just fine. Of they will complain like crazy but will be immensely proud of themselves. As well they should be -- this is not easy

    Resurrection Week

I thought gorging was against the VMI policy? My "rat" has been asked to eat 15 dinner rolls, but if this was my son, I would NOT be happy.

It's also BS- I don't know these kids on this video but I guarantee that it's the Rat's dykes and they are fooling around with each other along the lines of "I'll bet you can't drink 4 glasses of Chocolate milk in 30 seconds". It's not Resurrection related anything.

    Hard to read

My son just received an acceptance from VMI last week. All of this is hard to read. He continues to tell me he wants a military education but does he really know what he is asking for?? What do you all think about the pending cuts to the military and how it will affect graduates of the military colleges (VMI and Citadel)??

Will it affect them- it will to the extent that it affects everyone. Right now a graduate of an SMC is promised by law that FOR THE ARMY, he will be given active duty if he so desires AND the PMS recommends him. I don't see that changing- but of course the caveat is "IF the PMS recommends him". So the criteria that the PMS uses may be changing so that where he in the past would take a chance- , he just won't do so in the future. About 2 months ago I talked to the PMS at VMI and I believe that one of the things he's doing is really tightening down on waivering LDAC at the end of 2d Class summer. In the past - they have been pretty liberal about allowing guys to miss LDAC to attend summer school or some other academic endeavor during 2d class year and attend LDAC and commission after graduation- I think that somewhere around 20% of the Cadets in my son's class (mine included) did that in order to graduate on time. He indicated to me that he won't be as lenient on that score anymore. Other things- who knows? The AD guarantee BTW is not in place for the other branches- so a significantly lower number of cadets are commissioning in the AF than in the past and I think the same is true of the Navy- not the Marines or the army right now though.

It's also important to consider that THE PRIMARY reason for going to a Military college is not the Army- it's the experience and life lessons that you learn at the school itself. The military lifestyle is a framework to teach Cadets how to function and succeed in a hi tempo, physically, emotionally and academically rigorous world, and while doing so developing your personal integrity and commitment to causes greater than just yourself. VMI will chug on regardless of the military commissioning rate and will continue to have value and be successful even if the commissioning grate dips significantly (it was about 60% for the class of 2011 and will be about the same this year- after that - all bets are off).

As far as the malarkey in the earlier posts- this is 21 year olds fooling around, nothing more (and there are lots of ways to tell that). Resurrection is going on right now- but this video isn't it- on the other hand they are getting sweat parties every night and this weekend will have some serious work and sweat in front of them before they break out.

    Perspective please

While what these rats did is obviously stupid/silly.. a dose of perspective might be in order. IT is chocolate milk, not vodka and I am sure the rats were not coerced. DS has never said anything about ever being forced to eat or drink anything. I am not saying it doesn't EVER happen, but although DS calls Res week horrible and he is exhausted, he is in no way abused. He is pushed to his physical limits and is having a hard time focusing in class because this week is especially tiring, but had he said it was easy, then everyone would make it and it would be a meaningless accomplishment. I really regret posting that because it does not do justice to Res week, nor does it have anything to do with it.
