Hey all, I had posted a while ago asking about my chances for an LOA and an appointment and was given the helpful information from mom3boys about retesting and from admissions that if I raised my Reading by 100 points (SAT) or got a 30 on ACTs I would be qualified for an LOA. I just registered for the ACTs in September, before I go to college. I have little experience with ACTs but have was recommended to take it by my MALO. I know that it does not penalize for guessing. I was hoping those that have taken the ACTs could provide some insight and let me know what prepared them or their child for them. I purchased the book "30 Days to a Better Vocabulary" (recommended by MALO) in hopes of bettering my scores. Any info would be greatly appreciated, I am trying to do everything possible to get an appointment and a 30 on ACTs seems to be the most direct route. Thank you in advance.

Real ACT Prep Guide for around $20 has three practice tests included. ACT also does an on-line prep that has two practice tests.

Unlike SAT, ACT tests speed. So when you practice, make sure to do so under time constrain. Otherwise, if you give extra time, the tests will feel easy and scores inaccurate.

My son took the May SAT and did not do as well as he expected. He is pretty bright kid and works hard. He decided to take a shot at the ACT and went stand-by for June. He did much better on the ACT -now he is going to re-take it again September to see if he can bump it up a point or two. Remember to sign up for the extra writing portion. If you would like to speak with my son PM me and he would be happy to help. Keep up the hard work.
