Rollercoaster Round 2

If you have a waiver from last year, I would call DoDMERB to ensure USNA still has it in the file. My son was waitlisted for Class of 2018 after USNA granted a medical waiver. He reapplied to Class of 2019 and received an LOA conditioned on resolution of his medical DQ. Somehow the waiver from the previous year had not caught up with his reapplication. After he provided a copy of the waiver from the previous year, he received an appointment. For piece of mind, I would be more proactive than my son was about that, so you aren't sweating it in the Spring.

Since waivers are handled by each service academy, you should call USNA directly versus calling DODMERB.

Any updates for re applicants? Just checking in, a lot of waiting right now.

For college re applicants, will USNA think lesser of your application if it doesn't get completely finished (like most high school applicants) in August/September? Things like recommendations from college professors take time because you need to let them get to know you for a little. The same goes for "Candidate Academic Information". And as for SAT's, I am re taking them in November. Its just a longer process to get the whole thing done while in college. Any comments?

They're not idiots. They know you can't get a professors recommendation on day 1 and probably not even in month 1.

It's also part of the reason reapplicants aren't looked at until first semester grades are received. They know certain things like recommendations take time.

Does anyone have an idea of how many re applicants apply each year? I know how many they tend to admit, but was just curious.

How many re-apply? No way of knowing that.

For the Class of 2019 appointments......"102 additional students have completed at least one semester of study at a college or university and one at a post-secondary prep school".

Good to see a lot of other reapplicants from last year. I finished everything except my college transcript, just waiting till the end of the semester to submit it.

Seeing c/o 2019 I-day pics on Facebook now. Wish I was there!! A little jealous of the amazing journey they are about to take. But hopefully, next year I'll be there with all of you! :)
nge2457 good to see you trying again too, haha. Let's hope things turn to our favor this time amirite?

Would it be better for a re applicant to submit the CFA as soon as possible, or submit it later and have a chance of maxing out all the scores?

I'm assuming that as a re-applicant you're currently enrolled and taking classes at college. If so, you won't be looked at until the end of the semester and grades are received. With that in mind, why hurry the CFA submission if you have the opportunity to retake it and believe you can score higher? You gain nothing by hurrying the process...it's still only the end of October.

The transition from high school academics to my college's academics were a bit rough. My college is a know grade deflator but still, some of those grades was hard to look at. Hoping they'll all raise once the end of the semester rolls around.
I'm in the process of finishing up nomination stuff here and hoping I'll have a bit more free time to work on my application essay - there's definitely been a lot of growth since the last time I applied and trying to figure out how to show it is proving to be tougher than expected.
Besides that, just need my teacher to input my CFA score and math/english rec letters and then I'm all good.

For anyone who is currently at the academy, or already admitted (and was a 2nd-timer)...What specifics did you take re applying to get an appointment?

They look for good grades in college courses rather than test scores. Also, leadership positions at college are a plus. Be able to justify to USNA that you will be a leader that people will want to follow.

Basically, make it a point to show that your application is fundamentally different the second time around. I have a friend that applied three times and got accepted the third time. Prove that wherever you want to go is right for you, and prove that you are right for them.
