After hearing the good news, I cannot stop thinking about what the experience will be like next year at the Academy. I had an extraoridinary time at NASS getting to know my other squad members from across the country. Now after Plebe summer and having an initial room assignment, do the mids generally stick together all four years? If you have any interesting stories about first meeting your roommates, please share!

It varies. Plebe Summer room assignments are made by the detailers. We started out living with other Plebes within our squad in alphabetical order. Every few days or whenever your detailers feel like it, those assignments will change. Every company is different on Academic year assignments for Plebes… some allow Plebes to pick and others assign rooms. Some will have them switch at the semester. it varies. As a female we only had 6-7 females per class in a company, so room mate selection is a lot less. Every class at USNA may or may not remain together after Plebe Year. Some Plebe classes are shot gunned after Plebe Year. Essentially randomly assigned to a new company. Some Plebe classes are scrambled. This means that your entire plebe company stays together but you move to a new company. The idea is to give everyone a fresh start after Plebe Year. Some Plebes will stay in the same company for 4 years together. Every administration approaches this differently and you won't know the answer until towards the end of Plebe Year. There are pros and ons to all of it. For me, I was happy were shot gunned. I some how got assigned to a company with my best friend and we got to live next door to each other for 3 years! Also, the number of room mates you have will depend on what floor you live on. For the most part you will have a 3 man room. 4 man rooms are generally saved for upperclassman. There are some 2 man rooms up on the 4th deck of Bancroft.

After Plebe Summer my daughter had two roommates during her Plebe year. They remained together for the next four years. One did a semester in France and another with a semester in China but they all came back together to finish. No shotgun and no scramble. They are still the best of friends. Two Marine and one Navy. Navy was deployed during my Daughter's wedding in October but Marine was in the wedding party and we learned a lot about the four years during her speech at the reception. All good of course.

Good Luck

We were the first class in 10 years to get shotgunned. It's a possibility. Depends on the administration's perspective. Never say never in the military and as I am sure you have already learned in one semester, change is constant.

in ds' company, for plebe summer it seemed that each room had at least one prior or napster. This was a good thing and those priors or napsters carried the load for the room initially.

DS had three in a room plebe year. ( a prior who made the age cut off by two wks & a varsity athlete) They were never required to change. He is still with the varsity athlete (still thick as thieves causing the same mischief since the first day of plebe summer). The third roommate has changed plebe summer, plebe year and youngster year. DS has liked every single roommate he has had.

His plebe summer roommates were a blessing. The VERY experienced prior was extremely helpful, a chiller, and according to my son an all-around-good guy. The other roommate is like my son and is a total chiller with a wicked sense of humor who doesn't take himself too seriously.

After hearing the stories from plebe summer and how DS and his roomie kept getting in trouble together (minor things like staying up late, unable to stop laughing while being reprimanded, or just generally yucking it up) DS was surprised that they have let the two stay together all the way through so far.

In the years at the academy my son has never complained about any of his same class company mates. (not to say he doesn't think it, I dont really know). But he really just comes home with stories about the awesomeness of the others in his company.
