As I was reading the NROTC process details, I am not sure on exactly how it works. Do you have to be accepted by the college first before the scholarship is awarded or can the scholarship be awarded first and will having a scholarship help you get accepted to a particular college.

You apply to the NROTC scholarship and to the colleges you hope the scholarship would get assigned too. It's your job to make sure you complete all applications. You could be offered the NROTC scholarship before you get into colleges or it could be the reverse and you get into colleges before you find out about NROTC. Some colleges it could help telling admissions you got a NROTC scholarship to their college, but it's not always gonna be the hook that gets you into a college.

The scholarship can be awarded at any time, whether you are accepted or not. I got mine early in the year so I hadn't (and still haven't) heard from where I was placed. My point of contact at the NROTC unit for the school I was placed at said there is usually a positive trend when it comes to being accepted when you already have a scholarship. However, this is not guaranteed and you still could not get in. Best of luck!
