Son applied only to his first choice service academy, thereby putting "all his eggs in one basket." He has strong credentials, but of course so does everyone else. Unfortunately, he was not selected for early admission, but he will be considered again during the regular admission period. He still has a chance and we are still hopeful, but there is no doubt that the percentages have dropped considerably. He also will not likely receive a final answer for 2 or 3 months. I would like to encourage him to also consider ROTC scholarship applications as an alternative, but he is of course way behind the time curve. The stated deadlines for AFROTC have already passed, AROTC requires submission of the application by Jan 10, and I believe NROTC requires submission by Jan 30. Though the official deadlines for Army and Navy have not passed, can anyone with experience tell us whether an applicant can reasonably complete the application process and receive a scholarship at this late date? He is already DoDMERB qualified, which may help with the tight deadlines. Also, I know that Navy awards scholarships to specific ROTC units/schools only. Does the Army do this as well? Son has been accepted to two good universities that he would be happy to attend, both of which have AROTC, but only one having NROTC. Does already being admitted help him at all during scholarship consideration? Thanks
