So I was looking for work over the summer and found a restaurant that will hire only if I continue to work part time during the school year. This will be my freshman year and I am also doing AROTC. Is it possible to make this work?

Sincerely,

For sure if you are organized. DS has held a PT job (1-2 weekend nights per week) bussing tables. Just make sure your employer is ok with you taking time off for labs/training. Also let them know your summer will have some 30 day trainings in there as well.

Sheriff beat me to it.
It's possible but will take some creative time management and an understanding boss and will depend on your work hours.
It might also depend upon how much time your classes will take up as far as homework. Being able to maintain a strong gpa will be important.

Agree with Sheriff and QA, my DS opted to only work in the summer. Instead he carried 20 semester units and still kept good grades.
Time managment is the key. So does getting up at 0500 each day and hitting the books after PT.

Just be aware that occasionally, you will have weekend field exercises that may conflict with a restaurant shift.

Posters have hit main points. Like athletics and AROTC , work and AROTC can be done, just takes willingness to compromise a little by coaches and employers, and hard work by you. DS worked p/t on campus with AROTC scholarship. Remember if you are on scholarship stipend is not taxable but your P/T income and summer AROTC training monies are; along with college monies you get for housing , above tuition monies.

May be reading too much into this but an employer (in restaurant business) that will only hire you for summer if you agree to work part-time as you begin first year college, and doing AROTC seems like they are indicating they are not too concerned about your priorities, such as education and future career. Understand it is their business and doing what is best for them, but you need to do what is best for you. Just saying. Good luck!

I get this kind of question quite a bit. It varies from can I pledge a fraternity to can I get my pilot's license. My response never varies and is simple, you will only be limited by your inability to effectively manage your time.
