Is there a strong correlation that if you were not selected for a ROTC scholorship that you probably won't get an appointment and vice versa?

I'm not sure the two are related. Did you talk to the ROTC people about their reasons for not choosing you? Did they feel you were deficient in some area?

In any case, I know of no correlation between the two (but what do I know?).

I don't think anyone can answer that for you since the system is different.

AFROTC scholarships are a nation wide competition, it does not matter where you live or what school you are going to attend. AFA apptmts have a lot to do with winning the nom. Yrs ago, there was only 1 applicant that got the Terre Haute nom, they won the appt. I don't know if they applied for AFROTC, but maybe if they did they could have not received a scholarship.

Also, realize that in the past few yrs AFROTC scholarship applications have increased dramatically due to the economic environment. They have a limited pot of money.

If you are looking for a statistical number that got accepted into the AFA without receiving a AFROTC scholarship, I would say it happens, but the odds are not high.

Just hang tight, you will know for a fact in a few short days.weeks.

I probably should have posted this in the ROTC thread, but I was wondering if anyone else had declined a scholarship yet? Because of my appointment I sent in the papers to decline almost a month ago, but my online status on afrotc.com still says "Congratulations! You were awarded a scholarship." Do you know if that status changes when you decline the offer?

Brian

I do not think there is a strong correlation between an ROTC scholarship and an appointment. However, ROTC scholarships are almost always less competitive than an appointment, especially a Type-7, but like Pima said, an ROTC scholarship can be more competitive if you live in a sparsely populated congressional district.

Bsa07eagle, since you've sent in the paperwork declining the scholarship offer, I wouldn't worry about it any further. But you could always give them a call to confirm.

It really depends on what detachment you are going to because I know the detachment I'm at right now scholarships are extremely competitive but also a scholarship depends on your major. The Air Force really wants people with language majors and technical majors so if you're in one of those fields getting a scholarship will be much easier. My detachment already sent in my scholarship application but they're waiting to hear if I got my appointment from the academy or not before they approve it.

I know that this year, due to economic situation, they had approximately 30% less scholarships to offer, but 30% more people apply for scholarships.
