ROTC scholarship questions

Official test scores mean you pay ACT or SAT to send them directly to CC. A screenshot of the scores is not official at all, they have to come from the testing agency.

Official transcripts mean that they have to have your school's seal, be sent by your school, or be uploaded by your school to a transcript request website. You can't just send a scanned grade report, it has to be official.

I logged into the AROTC status website and it said that I should be contacted shortly to schedule an interview. However, despite having my SAT scores file upload having been approved, the status website said I still need official proof. Does anyone know how long it takes to be contacted about an interview and how to officially prove your SAT scores (aside from going through collegeboard which takes forever)? Thanks in advance.

Two more things:

1. This might be a stupid question, but when you say you logged into the AROTC "status website", are you talking about the front page of the application portal where it gives you the status of each tab in the application, or is there another place DS should be logging into?

2. I'm not aware of any other official way of providing your SAT scores other than going through the College Board. I'm not sure (and I'm getting ready to check it out), but I think that the scores from the College Board are sent electronically. If that's the case, it shouldn't take as long vs. snail mail. I'll let you know what I find out.

The main page of your portal, before each tab, they'll send you a message with names and numbers of PMSs in your area to interview with.

CollegeBoard does send your scores electronically, so CC will get them almost immediately.

This makes complete sense. It just threw me a bit, because they are allowing uploads of unofficial things (which didn't make sense to me AT ALL), but I haven't seen anything yet that states they are still going to require official versions. If we had known that on the front end, I would have already taken care of it. Like I said in an earlier post, as long as they will schedule the interview with the unofficial items, I'm not concerned. It gives us a bit of time to order official copies of things and have them sent in.

Also, thanks for confirming the info. about the College Board sending test scores electronically!

Right on the SAT and transcript pages it tells the different ways to send them. It does not say official, because you can e-mail or fax them, and it also says the screenshot. So.... sounds confusing to me. I think I may still upload them like brij did, and then deal with the "official" request if we get one.

I absolutely agree -- completely confusing! I'm thinking of having DS upload now, as well. Are you going to go ahead and request the official test scores and transcripts now, or are you going to hold off and take the chance that they may not allow your DS to schedule an interview until they receive the official information?

@soccmomer

FYI -- I just went to application portal and there's a note on the log-in page stating that the application may be unavailable from Saturday 8/3/13 at 6am(EDT) - Monday 8/5/13 at 6am (EDT) for routine system maintenance.

When I tried to log in so I could see if there were any status updates on DS application, it came back with "Server Error". They may have already taken it down.

I've been doing this for a few years now and I have always known Cadet Command to accept a screen shot from the SAT website of your SAT scores. I have also scanned and emailed plenty of high school transcripts. There are 5 or 6 people at Cadet Command that process over 10000 applications a year. I have never seen transcripts or test scores turned back because they weren't official. I have seen instances where CC didn't receive the test scores that were sent by the testing agency. Snail mail if you want, but be prepared to check back often and exhibit a little patience.

We are getting the server error too. So....DS was going to copy down the essay topic so he can work on it this weekend. Does anyone have the exact wording of the sentence that describes what they are to write? Not happy about this!
And yes, I think we will just scan and upload and see what happens next. Our enrollment officer said to call him when we have completed the app and he will schedule the interview. He also gave us a name and e-mail of someone at CC to contact to confirm that the info had made it there.

"Consider carefully and then state below in the space provided why you wish to enroll in the Army ROTC Program. Indicate in your statement how you believe your own objectives in life are related to the education and training offered by Army ROTC and what a career obligation means to you."

Best wishes to all of the applicants and applicant parents' in this application pool.

It has been a big learning curve for both you and us posters alike.

Continue to keep sharing - because I'm sure there's plenty of applying lurkers out there who could definitely use this information.

Seems to be like a different process from mine ... boy would I love to get my hands on that new application to see what it's like.

The application itself is pretty nice. My DS had set up his account before the new application format was rolled out, and he said the new appl. is definitely more user friendly. However, as you can see by reading the postings that have been out here lately, that there's not a lot of input on it in terms of instructions or the procedural aspects of the entire process.

Each section of the application has its own tab across the top of the screen (I.e. personal info., school selection info., test scores/grades/contact info for guidance counselor & person administering PFT, survey, document uploads, etc.) I'm sure I'm missing one or two tabs and my verbiage may be off a bit, but you get the idea. If you haven't added any information in a particular tab, it's red. If you've provided some, but not all of the information, it turns yellow. If you've provided all info. for a tab, it's green. When you first log in to the application, there's a home page (or desktop). It shows any messages from CC, as well as a summary of the status for each tab. So, it makes it pretty nice. But, as I said before, information on the process as a whole is lacking a bit.

Just tried to check my application portal and it says "Server Error". Hopefully they didn't lose any information... That would be bad bad bad bad bad

I am going to work on my personal statement this weekend! I remember it can't be longer than 2000 characters, but is that with or without spaces?

Spaces count. Think of it like Twitter, you get 140 characters for your tweet including spaces.

Well, suppose that comes with being the guinea pig application pool.

However, the nice addition you have is that your portal lists your completion status; I had to manually make sure everything was good to go. It looks like CC also integrated 2 portals as well. For me, I had the application which was in addition to the status completion portal. CC made a heck of a lot of changes; especially with the process for guidance and PFT and interviewing. Glad CC is finally making the portal more user-friendly.
Response in blue.

One more small question about the AROTC scholarship app. When adding Parental Information, we added info for Mother, but nothing popped up to add info for Father. If we just pick Father on the drop down and then fill in the name in the spaces already taken up by Mothers name, will it add them so there is information for both or will it just replace the Mother information?

@ Soccmomer

Did you scan in anything to back up your volunteer hours or did you just state your hours in the Status tab?
