ROTC scholarship questions

Is there a spot for volunteer hours? If so, DS must have just written them in, as we can't scan. Not sure if we have any type of supporting documentation for a lot of his hours, we would have to go track down fellow scouts to have them sign for hours worked on Eagle projects.

Does anyone know where mailed documents appear on the application portal? I just see the upload page (blank because we did not upload).

DS did not see a specific spot for his volunteer hours, so he just typed them in the additional information area on the Status tab. Our state offers scholarships if certain requirements are met (one of them is volunteer hours). Therefore, the kids at his school are given a form that must be filled out with all volunteer hours and then signed off on by the one overseeing the volunteer work. They are then turned in to an administrator at the school near the end of their senior year so they can meet the volunteer hours requirement for the state scholarship. My DS forms are not the neatest in the world, as he didn't know back in his freshman year that he may have to turn them in to the Army!

I don't know since we've uploaded everything, but I would think it would either show as "Completed" on the desktop page when you first log in to the application portal, or perhaps it would show on the upload page as approved once they get it in their system (even though they weren't truly uploaded). If it's been more than 2 or 3 weeks since you've mailed them in, I would have DS follow up with CC via email.

DS just found out he is good to go for the interview! I just wanted to make a post for those that are still working on getting their application completed to let them know that DS still has NOT completed personal statement or survey. So, it sounds like once you get "unofficial" copies of things uploaded (i.e. test scores, transcripts, PFT scorecard), they will let you go ahead and interview. DS still has time to work on personal statement.

Just noticed something else that's interesting, and don't know if anyone else has had the same thing happen: DS originally uploaded a screen shot of his ACT/SAT scores in the File Upload area. Within about 2 days the upload went from Pending to Approved. I then saw where another applicant was notified by CC that they wanted "official" test scores. Therefore, about a week ago, I ordered the ACT/SAT scores directly from the testing agencies to be sent electronically to CC. Cadet Command has now removed the screen shot uploads from the File Upload area and have added a new area called Electronic Scores where the official test scores are now showing as Received and Validated.

DS's portal just added the scores and transcripts we sent! Now it says interview pending. Does that mean we can contact the college he wants to interview at and schedule the interview, or do we need to wait for something else (a letter or list of schools or something)?
He is doing his PFT tomorrow with his PE teacher.
One thing they asked for, was a college transcript for the one college level course he has taken and received credit for (last year). I think we will have that sent here and mail it in to CC.
We are moving right along!

Yay! I'm so happy for you (and your DS, of course!). When he logs into the application portal and is on the Dashboard screen, look near the left side of the page. It should say something about there being a message or notification, or something along those lines. Click on the message and it should give him a list of schools relatively close to your location. If the school where he wants to interview is not on the list, the message says he can go somewhere else, but he needs to let his "High School Point of Contact" know. I think it gives him a way to contact this person.

My DS has college credit, as well. We had an official transcript mailed to our house, and then just uploaded it yesterday. Even though they've already approved the high school transcripts that were also uploaded yesterday, the college xscript still says pending. I don't know why that one is taking longer.

AROTC Activities question

If a candidate has completed his Army ROTC Scholarship application in the summer before his senior high school year starts, does he only list the activities he has completed through the end of 11th grade, or does he go ahead and list those activities he will be participating in as a 12th grader too? School (12th grade) starts in about 2 weeks, and my son will be participating in many of the same activities, or will still be in certain capacities/activities (e.g. Eagle Scout). The application instructions are not very clear about that.

Many thanks in advance!

Someplace on the instructions - maybe where it says additional information, then there is a link to a checklist - it says list all activities through 12th grade. We put Spring sports down, because we knew he would be participating. The only thing DS did not list is a winter sport, because he is not sure he will be doing one.

If they know for sure what clubs, sports, activities, etc. they will be participating in during 12th grade, I would go ahead and have him put them on the application.

Great! Thanks for the info.

soccmomer took the right approach. If you're reasonably certain, barring injury or unforeseen circumstance, that you will participate in some activity in 12th grade you should list it. If it's something you merely hope to do, do not list it, but instead, update your application later if you do participate and can still do an update.

If the AROTC and NROTC scholarship files are submitted, will subsequent ACT/SAT scores be updated automatically, even if applicant has already been boarded, but have not yet received a scholarship? Or once their files are reviewed and boarded the first time, are they given a "scholarship candidate ranking score" that will be assigned to the file and not be changed through future boards? If it's the later, I'm just wondering if we should submit the applications now so that they are boarded earlier or wait for what we believe may be a higher SAT score. I believe DDs current SATs are competitive now, but think she can improve.

With regard to the AROTC, its my understanding that you may only change your test scores & school selections once the application has been submitted. However, I think you would have to request that any updated scores be sent to Cadet Command. They are not automatically sent unless you request that the testing agency send them. I couldn't speak to the NROTC.

I'm pretty sure that, in general, it works the same for NROTC. I think for Marine Option they let you do more updating between the two boards, probably because they are dealing with smaller numbers. I know my kid changed the following things after submission: major, test scores, school preferences (he re-ordered them).

So, it sounds like we should just have her go ahead and submit the applications now, and have the ACT/SAT automatically send the new scores when available. The scores will then be updated for any subsequent boards her files make it in front of.

That's definitely what I would do. If she indicates at the time she takes the next test that she wants the scores sent to CC, it might make it there before the 1st board.

Good luck!

When does AROTC app status change to "Complete?"

Everything on my son's Army ROTC Scholarship Dashboard shows as "Completed" or "Approved" with the exception of "Status" which still shows as "Incomplete." Any ideas when it will change to "Completed."

Thanks
