ROTC Scholarship Questions

Also, how would one add an essay explaining why my grades dropped a semester? I got 3.7-4.0 throughout high school, but I got sick one semester and got a 2.8, which considerably hit my GPA. I also noticed that they ask for the Unweighted GPA in the Academics section. Do they not count weighted GPAs? This is a cause of concern for me because weighted my grade is a 3.53, while unweighted is a 3.37. Although Unweighted I am in the top 20% of my class.

If I can be of any help, I received a 4 year AROTC scholarship for the upcoming school year. They calculate the unweighted gpa themselves when you upload your transcript. I myself only had a 3.3 unweighted so you shouldn't be too worried as long as everything else stands out.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your extracurriculars like?

4 years of wrestling, varsity 3 years, captain 2 years. 2 years of jv soccer, captain 1 year. 3 total varsity letters. Participated in NJROTC 3 years, was an officer one year, helped run the unit, did drill team, color guard, participated in volunteer service within the unit. Attended Virginia Boys State last summer. Not sure how I stood out honestly, it may have been the fact that I did jrotc

Yeah, those sports really stand out. The problem for me is I stopped playing footbal sophomore year, as described above. It worries me, but at the same time I have a ton of other activities, and I also went to Boys State. Thanks for the help.

No problem, you should do fine, just make sure you get everything completed as soon as possible, and as others said, don't worry about explaining the football situation unless asked.

What stood out is that you did ALL of that while demonstrating leadership and, I'm sure, good academics.

Thank you. I see a lot of applicants with these large resumes compared to mine though. I didn't have the highest gpa, I started off freshman year with a 2.6 but I worked hard to bring it up. At the time of me applying for the scholarship I had a 3.5 which really impressed the pms that interviewed me.

Between your captaincies varsity letters JROTC leadership and boys state participation your leadership column probably made up for a lower than usual gpa.
